I'm told by the aged locals that MB used to be the epicenter of surfing in NJ, with it's own surf shops, competitive team, pro comps... And it still has a very strong and rich surfing culture (fishing, too, with the car-toppers and popular surf casting spots). So from an historical perspective, my very on local gets my vote.
Almost every town along the Jersey shore is awesome, I couldn't choose one. From Monmouth County all the way down to Cape, so many great spots it is unreal. It is debatable that New Jersey is one of the best states for barrels in the US, at least from what I have got
Ocean City is hard to beat as a "Surf Town" but its become so crowded in the past 15 years that its kind of a buzz kill. Its pretty bad when you live close enough to walk to several good surf breaks but you get in your car and drive somewhere else to surf where the waves are just as good with almost nobody out. I blame it on the 15 surf cams that have every inch of the shoreline covered from East Atlantic to 20th street and beyond. Really people, I can assure you that waves really do exist in places that don't have a surfcam on them....you just have to quit being lazy and go look for yourself. If I lived off this island and had to get in a car and drive to surf anyway, the north end of Ocean City would be the last place I'd go. If I had to use the Parkway or the AC Expressway to get to the surf I'd skip OC altogether. There really are other places with waves. Figure it out folks.
Agreed. I surf the northend mostly, because that's where i live. unless it's good. Then I go visit other breaks anywhere between 10 and 50 miles that are nearly empty while errbody fights for priority at the oc jetties...
