I spent an enjoyable afternoon in the rivers behind Sullivans Island yesterday wading and fishing. I didn't cover too much ground but it got me thinking about building a fishing SUP. The basic design would be about 12'x3'x4" or so and look like a thin jon boat. I'm 6'1" and 210 so I think that will be plenty of float.

Some of the built in components would be:
    cooler/seat
rod holders for 2 rods, net, paddle and pole

    What did I leave off?

I am in the process of buying a house with water access and can't wait to get fishing and crabbing by summer's end. Have thought about one of these but see a lot more fishing kayaks.

I fish and crab out of a sit on top kayak. I've seen a combo sit on top sup at a specialty sports store once.

In a related note, crabbing out of kayak is tricky. Dumping crabs out of a trap into a cooler on a kayak is... sometimes interesting!

I would add to the front (or where ever you want, maybe back too) those tie down mounts so you can run a cord through (usually crossing back and forth) and strap down anything else that comes along later (i.e., a milk crate, etc.). My basic pond sup has these, so it would be handy if I want to strap down a cooler, etc. Right now the cords are removed because I was working with a beginner and did not want them to get tripped up.

That thing is sweet. Ideally, yes. I doubt mine will look that nice though.

    Thanks for the input guys!

yep Metards right, put a milk crate by the bow cut PVC pipes and put them at the corners inside the crate to use as rod and net holders. I have the Pauhana Agler fishing SUP and its amazing. I have a cooler on it to sit on and store gear, and a rod holder at the stern for trolling. My dog even fits on the board.

That is nice. I would actually fish more if I had one.

Don't forget the beverage holder. I have a small jon boat for bass fishing that I brought back to life. I have been getting all kinds of accessories that the kayak fishermen use for their vessel to pimp it out.

    Good luck...
