That there's one hello tread for all time and newcomers have to pledge by that route. The locals will approve or disapprove of them pertinent to their respective petition and life story. It will be a permanent sign-in book of the most epic proportions. It will be the HOF tread hands down. Imagine a tread you could read and see the inaugural posts of Chuck, rcarter, sandblasters and gruvi all at once.

It would be the straight up authority and story of the Swellers. If anyone were ever to be responsible for the tread to be locked, they'd then be unofficially banned for eternity.

I move to have an end-all, be-all hello tread established. Any party in opposition may file such with the honorable judge capecodcdog.

One 'Hello' tread for all newbs, spicoli? Wouldn't that tread thus get insanely long as time passed & thus defeat the purpose of vetting newbs? Just askin

By all means, file the opposition with judge cdog. The dude presides.

Perhaps I'm an idealist, though I considered a tread that was self-policing out of respect for its sanctity. An exercise in tact and composure for the entire forum. And if there were a kook in the rough here and there, they'd be doomed for acting out in the holiest of treads.

Also looking for a reason to stop in here more than 2-3x a week. This place is getting bland to the point of me reading 10-20% of treads when I used to read them all. More wit and function is needed. I'm ok with the occasional lawlessness and stupidity, it's just become the regularity.

Majority of forums do just have one hello thread...

Whatever. I never read those extremely long hello treads on other forums. But I read all of the hello treads here.

No worries, entertainment here will pick up for you Emass now that the flat season is about to begin.

Exactomundo!! Betty is right on target.
A single hello thread is as useless as a surfer, whom we all know are assholes anyway.

Correct. Same for treads on a variety of given topics that would otherwise result in habitually redundant treads and forum congestion if not made sunilar. I've mentioned this before, yet few are interested in this place learning from the multitudes of non-surf predictin' forums that have come before it.

I guess organization would make too much sense.

As for style, ZeroE, that could mos def be preserved in each newcomer's respective hello post in the sunilar tread.

I pretty much agree with Betty. It's like sitting around a campfire. Each flame that pops out of the fire is interesting in its own. The fire is ever changing, but you can focus on one element of it or the entirety.

In plain English: I think it would take too long to read an all encompassing hello tread, and no one would keep it organized, and each newbie deserves the chance to make a first impression on his or her own. Just my opinion.

Have a great weekend ya'll. Little windcoppe on its way down here. I'm finishing my hplb paint job today, no matter what! I came up with a simple design -a ying yong symbol combined with a low pressure symbol. Peas and waves!

Deep zer... Well a lot of forums have threads and then subthreads underneath the latest postings are or can be still displayed on most recent posts page so in essence it is just like a thread by itself but resides under the hierarchy of a main section... For ex. If I post xxx in southeast section of forum it still displays on recent posts page

Since we have a motion on the floor and a second, the floor is open for questions and discussion.

Oddly enough, I was thinking about this the other day. Why does there need to be a new hello thread for each new member intro? It seems to me it would be easier to follow one tread .. just go to the last page, and work backwards. Under the current use case, whenever a hello tread is in the list, one can't help but say, now which thread is this? I suppose if you are on the forum list, you can see who started the particular tread to delineate them.

Since I have been designated judge, I must try to remain impartial in this matter and will attempt to point out the virtues of each approach. So the trade off is one super long "hello tread" vs. continuous hello tread spawning. At the rate we are going, the number of hello treads is approaching Avogadro's number.

As an aside, If this motion passes, maybe Micah can utilize an intern to write a script to retroactively concatenate (merge) all the existing hello treads into one super tread.

Continue on .. the floor is open.

There you have it brahs! We left the matter up to democracy, Socratic method, and justice. Motion made, seconded, and ratified by ye honorable c3dog.

Next up is establishing rules for the master hello tread. Remember, self-policing is far better than having outside authorities step in and ban dudes.

Nay, I think for the longetivety and we'll being of the forum hello threads should be individual. Also I believe it to be impossible to enforce these measures with any authority upon the free people of the forum.

    I reiterate. Nay.

BBP makes a good point considering the antinomian nature of this forum. And pragmatically, enforcing such a decree would likely prove futile.
