drove a hr and half to this shapers shop! I finally found it out behind this warehouse! after a half hour I was driving away with a pirates smile! decided on a 8'3 thruster, kinda like a big guy tri! feel like a kid before Christmas! haven't been this excited about anything in a long time. cant wait to get the call to pick it up! love to hear any POSITIVE stories you chargers have in relation to new boards!

Wow 8'3! That is huge. Custom boards are the way to go. All of mine are shaped by a buddy of mine who I have known since Jr High. He has surfed with me since my first wave at 16 and knows how I surf so he can make a board to fit me and the way I ride.

A new custom is like hooking up with a girl you've known for long time and have always wanted.

In other words... you might well just find it to be more than you could ever have imagined... or a total disappointment!

    Enjoy the strange!

Great thread! Funny enough, just picked up my very first custom this Friday, and rode it this morning. I don't think I have ever been that excited to ride a board since I can remember in forever. I'll try to upload some pics from my phone. Dims are 5'10" x 20 1/8 x 2 1/2. Prob could have gone a little thinner or shorter, but I love it! Ended up talking shop for hours with the shaper, adn enjoyed every second of it. I don't think I will ever buy off the rack again. The only downside is the wait...

In the last 40 years, I have never bought a board off the rack; always custom. It is the only way to go, for me.

Have fun with it. It's almost as if it is your creation/design.

I always bought of the rack, go to every shop and find that board that tells you it's the one. But I to just ordered my first custom a little over 3 weeks ago. Should be ready any day now and I'm getting antsy as all hell.

Obviously I hadn't seen the board yet but the whole experience was awesome. We took one of his shapes and modified it a bit. I knew what I wanted out of the board but didn't have a idea of what the board I wanted would look like. Having it come together as we both were grabbing diffrent board of the rack, talking diffrent design elements, than as it came together both of us started getting excited. Awesome experience. And allot of fun.

When it's ready I'll post pics

Took it out for dawn patrol saturday morning, but it was small and closing out (Cheech you cursed me dammit!!!). Paddles great and it's easy to get into waves. Dawn patrolled again sunday am up in the north end, and got into a few chest sets that didn't close out for a change. Easy rail to rail transition -draws nice arcing turns. I'm currently riding it as a quad with pc-5s and a gx something for the rears (I'd have to look at them again). I asked Austin for futures and he gave me fcs by mistake and that's what they had at wrv in a med fin template (on consignment so they were cheap), hence me not remembering.

Anyway, was able to make a few snaps on my backside, and I felt it was way easier than on my twin fin retro fish. Not sure if its the board or the fin set up...I'm new to quads. Looking forward to a solid chest high day that doesn't close out and really get a feel for it both as a thruster and as a quad. Either way, fun so far and I am so glad I pulled the trigger with Austin.

I've had my best luck with off da rack boards or craigslist beaters (especially lately). I over-think when ordering a custom board and then it winds-up being a disappointment. Good on you for knowing what to order.

I am patiently waiting for my custom longboard! I totally know what you mean, like a kid waiting for Christmas. And it's sweet that my shaper surfs at the same beach, has seen me surf and knows exactly what will work for me. Seems like lots of us here are getting a new custom board.

When ever Im due for a new stick I always head to Brave in Point. Theres usually at least seven boards or more that I cant make a decision on. Im an impulse buyer and it kinda works for me , stock boards are just fine 4 me!!
