I am usually the first one to make fun of SC public schools, but my reasons are more fact based (like poor areas get very little of the school funding). However, Jersey has nothing on our top HS.

If you have money in SC, and/or your kid can test out of regular school, they will receive an excellent education here.

Those comparisons are very misleading. The education system in this state is amazing in Greenville, Columbia, and Charleston. It is just that the rest of the state is composed of low income areas. WV had the same problem. Our schools were amazing if you lived in one of the larger towns/cities. The rest of the state was basically the boonies. The biggest downfall in SC, is that old southern money still rules. You can see that very clearly when looking at which schools get the bulk of the budget.

Well, that situation parallels what USED TO be here in NH, and it was caused by local taxes paying for local schools. So then, wealthier higher taxed communities got more money because the bigger homes got taxed heavier but it still resulted in crappy schools. That changed here in NH years ago (Claremont Decision in NH Courts) to a state education tax, and the result has been that now ALL schools have LOUSY education. The new state tax ruined whatever the good schools had in wealthier communities, and did NOTHING for schools in poorest communities except further ruin them!! In other words, throwing more money at PUBLIC schools resolves NOTHING NOWHERE. Not here and it will not in SC. Money is NOT the solution;local control is. Bottom line, government should stay OUT of education--it is just another area where their incompetence dominates and phucks everything up. The Federal Dept of Education should be eliminated--they are useless.

    This ^^^^

The one thing that has the biggest impact on a childs education is parental involvement.

    Ignorance has no borders.

MIS public education is just to keep future generations subservient to "da man" anyhow? Right? <wink>
