Surfed the last three days from Duck to Pine island, not another soul in the water. Anywhere north or south of the Duck research pier is a good bet, have fun trying to find a place to park though. Like another poster stated, you could park across the street from sunset grill (big parking lot)and walk thru Ships Watch or the next rd north. If there is a swell you will be rewarded. I tell you this in confidence, keep it to your self! And don't forget to go to Johns on the beach Rd for a dolphin boat! You won't be disappointed
oh, ask the employees at REAL (as in REAL expensive surfboards with 97% from anywhere other than the east coast). They are all REAL locals and know the best spots.
Yeah us Jersey guys who have been surfing the east coast for 30 years or so don't know anything compared to an Annapolis, MD resident. Where are all these "special" spots that you insinuate that we know. I didn't see anybody mention any "special spots." Like, for example, there ain't nothing special aboot Ocean Sands section H,I,J. I lived there for three years, but yep I don't know what I'm talking aboot. The dude sounded like he was staying in the Duck-Corolla area. There ain't no "special" spots up there. And every friggin spot on the banks comes and goes. Yeah, the OBX is nothing but a big sand bar that people live on...just like all Jersey beaches. "Wannabe a$$holes, huh? Hey, is this Martin O'Malley? Hey, you ain't governor anymore so don't take your anger out on Jersey types. Oh great line, "trust your self and you will find waves" It's like Surfing Star Wars or something. Would you like to be called "YODA" or "Obi One" or how aboot just plain "Ben?" Oh, when you have the time maybe you could explain these wind and tide things that effect the surf.
im going to post road maps and google earth points on all the secret spots on obx tomorrow. anapolis? you should be happy mr navy gay marriage is legal now!! have fun on submarines!!!
Go to the Red Drum tackle shop in Buxton. Tell them you are from the Audubon Society. Those good ol' boys are gonna be more than willing to help you out.
If Jennette's is firing, you need to keep moving....preferably north. This goes for any of these "spots" you are dropping..like First Street. Probably a good thing to stay away from the piers. Duck, Corolla, and Caravoa are great spots, just stay up there. Be a good tourist and mind your manners.
The best sessions I've had down there were at random trails up over the dunes along Rt12. Ya just gotta get out of the car and look. Go to the lighthouse if you like crowds. Make sure you check the North and South sides as one can suck while the other is fun.
Yeah, 1st St in KDH is a huge secret. It's especially tough finding spots driving down Rt 12. You can't even see the parking spots or ocean. Ahh this guy is angry because his dope gets so cut by the time it hits Buxton. And his rocks get smaller and smaller..... Hey dude, feel free to post NJ spots on here. They are complete secrets, too. Just don't mention 16th Ave in Belmar. Keep that on the down-low. Isn't there like 40 websites advertising all "The Spots" everywhere these days? That's how I discovered Holyoke twenty years ago. Remember guys, think Buxton on your next OBX trip.
Get out there and explore. For crying out friggen loud, man, it's Cape Hatteras not the Outer Banks (even worse, call it OBX). Plus, you're in the continental US looking for waves so it's safe to explore. I remember in high school, we drove down there, surfed our nuts off, and I don't even remember where we surfed. We just pulled off of Rt 12, checked over a sand dune, and scored. I know we surfed the lighthouse and some piers, but the no name peaks were the best.
Ummm, Cape Hatteras is part of the Outer Banks. Look it up. It's a part of The OBX. Locally they delve the OBX into three areas: Northern Beaches(Duck..Corolla) TOWN (Kitty Hawk to Nags Head) DOWN SOUTH (Pea Island to Hatteras Village) And I know more aboot the OBX than even the locals. Because most of the locals are from Pittsburgh or are dumb deliverance types. Sha zing !! And the Outer Banks is a big sandbar. Yeah, The Pit and WRV are resting on a sand bar. A big one.
It's not that any of those places are secret, it is just funny that you are trying to be a big shot. It is the summer, so unless we have a hurricane, no big deal. Sandbars are changing all the time. Just funny that you try to drop spots because you lived in Duck for a few years....lol. If none of those spots are secret, then why run your mouth. That is somebody's home spot, so don't sheet on it. We dodge enough people as it is. As for just driving down highway 12, looking for parking spots? Lololol
Your getting uptight about 1st Street? Somebody's spot....who Delbert's? Come on man...did you not feel the sarcasm? Especially about parking on 12. There is a beach access practically everywhere you look. Dodge enough people? I guess the fact that you live on one of the top sandbars on the east coast embedded in one of the premier tourist destination has nothing to do with it? I have been surfing up and down the banks for decades and surf with generational locals...I have always seemed to be able to find uncrowded surf...just saying.
