Good. Thanks for asking ... just got back from the Doc, bone is bruised and tendons are inflamed but that's it.

Might try to get on this little bump tomorrow .... before I have to get back to work next week...

....not trying to derail the thread. So to keep it on topic ... is VB really as crazy kooky packed as I hear? Don't worry guys, it's pretty far down on my list of spots to hit (no offense)

None Taken, i just use it to work and be closer to the outer banks.

There are some really talented surfers here. Most everybody knows some sort of surf etiquette. The people that don't have any surf etiquette are easy to spot and they scare off easy too. Croatan has surf lessons pretty often... i try to steer clear of that mess.

Really, I was just mocking the guys about the "hows the surf in Annap."...Annapolis has only ripples and boat wake, unless a squall comes up, and it's usually too disorganized to surf, however at the southern part of the Chesapeake bay, you can hit Chincoteague and (even better) Assateague - which can get steep and epic during tropicals, - if it gets big, you can get worked!....just fun at other times - best time: low incoming tide - best board - longboard, although I've seen some guys rip on shortboards...just be in shape - since it's a beach break, the paddle out can be tiring, and almost as far out as some of the southern California breaks!

Every heard of anybody surfing Fisherman's Island? Bottom of the eastern shore point break... only access is by boat. Only handles a se/sse swell.

don't know of any southern CA breaks that are far out...maybe slightly farther out than most east coast, but not much. Try paddling out in Honolulu...takes forever just to paddle out to the break...then paddling back in all tired is exponentially worse.

Don't have to worry about getting hurt on the N end since they fugged up the bottom.

I have no idea why youz guys all try to hurt yourselves while surfing. I have been surfing for over 50 years and have yet to injure myself.
Hope I am not jinxing myself now.....

Better yet, have "channels" dug into your board to replace fins. That will give you strength, flexibility, toto control, get you laid, make you rich, and be a prince amongst men!! If you call now, you will get 20% off!!

In short, yes. During the summer with any decent swell, the water gets fvcking crowded like I have never seen elsewhere. 1st street and croatnam are the worst. North end tends to be a little less so, but as cheech mentioned, it doesn't break as good.

off season it clears out a lot. The injury in the picture happened a few springs ago while surfing with my buddy. Only two or three other people out and an inexperienced guy just straight up dropped in on me and you saw the result of his fin saying hello to my skull.

we all got caught inside a big arss COSTA RICAN bomb! when I got to the surface this other AMERICAN had a 4 finger flap hanging off his head! he was screaming for help and was pretty scared! his buddy didn't get out of his why and the fin went straight into his head! trying to get him off that beach was HORRIBLE! It was the Wednesday before I left and that accident basically fugg up the rest of my trip when it came to confidence and serenity! I believe he was ok after many stitches and a M.R.I to rule out fractured skull!

    On a semi related note:
I was camping in Matapalo in 01. There was a young pretty blond gringo down the beach. He had Ticas lined up for his attention. He came in our camp with a machete with a broken tip. He used my file to round and sharpen it. He test drove it in our camp, putting a coconut on a log and coming down way too hard. Split the nut and buried deep in the log. He pulled out was too hard, the blade came out way too fast, and split his nose way too deep. We too him to puerto jemenez. We were advised not to take him to rojo cruz, but to the tattoo guy. The lad got butterfly bandages and we left him there. A month and half later we saw him in Malpais with a line of ticas. couldn't hardly tell he fugged up.

I had couple incidents in last year or two..fortunately or unfortunately, neither was on a 30' wave somewhere exotic.

One of the hurricane days last year I was on a nice sand bar with another guy I see around. Everything was going great until a close out drilled me and somehow flipped the board under my feet while I was above it or mid air. I think my idea was to launch out but I was too late. I landed backwards with and fin just about went through my palm. Should have gotten stitches but didn't..as gnarly as it looked, no tendon damage and it actually healed reasonably fast (people kept telling my MONTHS for palm cut). Actually did not bleed much. Nothing worked on the next swell, duct tape, liquid bandage, etc..but I still got out, just not for long as it would open back up.
Before that took a LB fin to the head. No stitches, wasn't mad at the guy, he did no mean to loose control. I was bleeding but still got few waves before getting out.

It made me consider how could I protect myself better...and somewhat superstitious as most of fin meetings happened with one board. No longer a favorite nowadays..
