This thread...threads like this are is what originally drew me to this site. It is one of the few places where people still argue, and worry far less about offending people. Unfortunately, even here the surrounding culture exerts an influence, and so we have our banned friends. My guess is this is because Micah might face legal issues if he didn't act, but the fact that the site might face those legal issues is exactly the problem. This concept of "hate speech" is so stifling. Personally, I find hate speech to be moronic and pointless, yet I partake occasionally to hate on idiots like blaster.
I support the right to it all the same without fear of prosecution (not fear of banning, thats the forum rules)
    LET PEOPLE BE OFFENDED.
Everywhere, everyone should just get used to being offended.

That simple change in thought would clear up all sorts of problems. I've been offended on here. I've felt belittled, angry, disrespected. Such is life. I got over it. But no! We can't have that. Better to shove it underground, and pretend we are all one big happy family.

That will work... until it doesn't. And then the explosion will be epic.

    Ferguson and Baltimore are warmups.

I'm Ben, and I've been offended on SwellInfo. And it's ok.

Good for you guys, stay strong. Respect.

In other news some dude started sh1t with an older lady, stabbed a cop in the neck, got shot in Brooklyn yesterday. 4 dudes arrested this week on terror related charges. These are just headlines... This is NYC, another week. But hey I think we're changing the "please stand by for closing doors" message to "stand clear" in our subway cars to save "idling time" at stations.

Nope. I grew up surfing in Puerto Rico. Started very early in life (first board age 10)
Much, much, much, much mo' betta than the mush you grew up in. Much bigger, warmer waters, reefier breaks, great offshores, empty breaks. Did you really grew up surfing in the East Coast?? Awww.....I'm sorry......

But....I am now confined to that very same mush you are experiencing...hahahahaha! Ces't la vie, mon ami!

Thanks Towelie but I can claim no credit for these good deeds. I'm up in NC and a solid 5-6 hrs away, so props to the people of Charleston for having some sense.

No intention of going to the south. Just saying there's a trend and a profile.

Actually, I'm mistaken. Mass shootings don't always happen in areas that aren't economically well off. A 20 something white kid from a well off family went off in Santa Barbara. Maybe it's the 20 something white kids that feel entitled and aren't getting whatever they think they deserve so they go off on other rich kids, blacks, gays, the federal government etc.

Well, given a distribution curve (I am sure the FBI has one), there probably is a pattern of some kind. What that pattern/profile is, remains a mystery to me.

blah blah blah, do you speak with facts or hyperbole and feelings? As you are a girl, I am guessing feelings

biggest mass shooting in US history was carried out by an Asian

Seung-Hui Cho, a senior at Virginia Tech, shot and killed 32 people and wounded 17 others in two separate attacks (another six people were injured escaping from classroom windows), approximately two hours apart, before committing suicide.

Not that it really matters but the kid was not from Charleston.

Frost is right about some small towns being stuck in the past and frankly quite scary. FYI Juliep, I've seen these towns through out the US, even, gasp, up north. My stars.

Terrorism used to be defined as a violent act against goverment. Now they want to label everything terroism so they can eliminate due process. Allthough I think this kids trial shouild take ten minutes personally.

Definitlely a hate crime by definition although I think it's a moronic to even differentiate.
If you're sane you generally don't kill those you love even though you might have the urge occasionally. JK....
Murder is murder. It was racially motivated for sure.

Brew is right about people getting along here as a whole. No riots unless they bus in the aggitators.

MIS I agree nothing wrong with a little butt hurt from time to time. Makes you think an maybe reflect. Get over it.

The politicians won't miss a chance to use this situation to advance their agendas.

This was/is totally tragic and sensless event. Hopefully it will make people more vocal about unity and peace as this really is the only justice that can come from this horrific event.

I hate to admit it, but I was yesterday what I dislike - a headline reader. Clearly, after actually reading viable news sources, the kid was an all out racist. He was also clearly mentally unstable, which nobody can deny. But a big 'Sorry' to spam the thread with nonsense.

When you are wrong, you are wrong.

And as an afterthought - reading the news these days just sucks.

Ya know, I feel like sometimes people jump on things as THE issue b\ its the easy way out. I agree, making it about a flag or a street name misses the point. So let's just say they get SC to take down the flag and rename all the roads. How many of the people screaming for it will then declare victory, retire to their homes, and feel all good about themselves? Meanwhile these racist pr*cks are still out there spreading their evil. If anything it will just make more recruits for them. Lot harder and a lot more work to confront the real issues of racism.

And of course the vultures have descended looking to profit of this tragedy. POS politicians on both sides looking to spin this into votes and the media salivating over a juicy story. bleh.
