    its like a chain reaction.i was a big fan of tom curren,still am,and hes almost a senior citizen lol,slater,dingo Morrison,jamie o brien(before jjf came to light),tom carrol(he charged),ross Clarke jones,noah Johnson,flea and the santa cruz boys.

now the chain reaction i speak of.everyone loves slater.
slater was inspired and mentored by tom curren.along with many others.then Jamie o brien who looked up to slater.then jjf who looked up to Jamie o brien.then all these groms nowadays that look up to jjf.my first time seeing jjf was on mtv cribs many years ago.he was probably like 7 yrs old lol.

so who inspired u when u started surfing.some local guys,ur dad,a pro. i have neither a dad and locals pros good enough to look up to.most people suck in Monmouth county, like really fuking suck lol.i see guys in top notch shape, paddle out on a $800 al merrick, skip the peak, take off on the shoulder and ride it to the sand, coming in claiming it like it was wave of the summer.thats what i see when i go surfing.but then again i have people who watch me,which i hate, lol, like oh man this guys gonna do something amazing and i go out there flopping around pulling into closeouts, getting washed up on the sand with a smile on my face and i go back out for more.its all fun for me whether ur getting worked on every wave or ur actually catching bombs successfully.

    so share ur tales

Dawn Patrol inspired me to keep getting after it, even though I really struggled at first. He inspired me to surf blown out crappy onshore ****e and to travel all over the place to catch waves. Thanks DPSUP, you're my boy blue!

MR? All the boards back then kinda looked like MR's, with their colorful airbrush jobs....but I didn't pay any attention to pro surfers because I was too busy idolizing local surfing, itself.

even as old as I am, slater and curren are the ones who's style I'd like to be closer to.

Great question and I don't know where to begin. Too many to name but I have to add a lot of the innovators such as, Buttons, M.Richards, S.Tomson (man he can rip J Bay), C.Horan, and let's not forget Simon Anderson, taking 3 fins into oblivion. So many chargers of the post longboard era. The guys before them were no slouches either. G.Knoll, M.Dora, etc. so many to emulate.

I started surfing a long, long time ago... So going back to the 70's, I guess Greenough first and foremost... then Rabbit, Horan, Lopez, MR, and Shawn Thomson. They where in the first surf films I saw as a kid.

Then there was the Hawaiians, but I just couldn't relate... Buzzy, Bertleman, etc. But I just couldn't make them my heroes.

After that, though, it would be Curren for sure... Probably my greatest inspiration. His power and flow was what I tried to emulate. Then the other power surfers... Occy, Gerr, and Pottz.

Slater's just a freak, and I was on the decline by the time he had his 5th or 6th World Championship. So he just got me depressed watching him.

Beings goofy and growing up in a place that breaks predominantly right, I've always looked up to the most powerful and stylish goofy footers.
Guys like Occy, Owen Wright, Matt Wilkinson, Freddy P.

+slater and irons for regular footers
