I just picked up a shred sled and I need advice on the Futures. Its a 5 fin set up. I don't have tons of cash so I need to get a set that I can switch out to a thruster and a quad I quess. I am 180 lbs and surf mainly is Monmouth conditions. I am older, so no hippity-hopping for me, I am looking for drive, speed and some release. Let me know if you have sound advice.

Anyone try the WCT honeycomb for the thruster and the QD2 4.0 honeycomb for the quad?

I have used a number of different set-ups--here is what I prefer:

Quad: machado fronts with a 375 QD1 rear (all around rear for me). Recently, I have also been using the medium RTM haydens as fronts (I like using the QD2 quad rear template in waves with a bit of push).

Thruster: Machados/FAMs (same template, but machados are a bit larger); the large Hayden RTMs worked great as well.

Also, hayden has a quad set now, but haven't heard the specs on the fins...I would be interested, but with the width of the SS tail...compared to the hypto...not sure if I'd be a fan or not. I emailed them...waiting on a follow up...his previous quad rears were very large IMHO...made my SS very stiff...

Great feedback... whats you weight, I am about 185 ibs. I was looking at the TP1 (Patersons) for a thruster and a QD2 4.15HC quad rears. Any experience with that?
Also I was thinking since the shred is 2.5 thick as is with that extra float I may need a large fin to keep the drive

165-170... No experience with the pattersons. IMHO I would used what you have been currently riding as a control and then change things up. .I have a 5'8 stock GSI SS and a custom 5'9"...I was used to the AMsand in other boards and was an easy transition. The largest fins I've used were the machados--but the don't release as well as I would like. I try not to go over 3.75 with the tears do to the McKee set up. I find the larger the wave the less fin I need for the tears fin. So I switch h back and forth between the QD1 and QD2 but keep my fronts the same.

According to Hayden's site, the rear quad fins (new) are roughly the same size as the tears for the HS3s...hope that helps...

i have a shred sled and i have been running the Rasta quad setup. its fast and a little on the lose side. i tried a few other setups and that is the one that i felt complemented the board best.

Thanks; I ride WRV's religiously and all of them come with FSC's. This is my first FUTURES set up so I am learning as i go. I cant exactly decide if I should go with medium size or large fins from them in my weight range. Like I said i range from 175-185. MY FSC's are medium, but this board will sit higher in the wave so i am thinking I may need a larger fin to keep engaged.

So I went with your advice and picked up the rasta quad set up. Once I feel these out, ill think about a thruster set up.

They should work...the fins are on the smaller size in my opinion but should be fun to mess around with...the Rasta rears are the same foil/dims/template as the 3.75 QD2. Switch up the fronts after riding the Rasta for a few sessions to see the change in drive, etc. if you haven't already I would also check out mckee's website: Quattro. Ton of great information there...He even gives you the fin recommendations. May be fcs but gives you a reference point.
