Might as well make a new fish....hopefully I can get it back from the glasser before summer is over!!! I know i still got a bit to do on it first.

    But here's the start.

the outline seems awfully wobbly/lopsided...did you intend it to be asymmetrical?

On the first picture? And no that was a free hand attempt at matching. I cleaned it all up with the planer and surform.
I'll post more when I get it back from glassing.

you should really consider using a template to get a smoother line and mirror image on both sides of the board.

You can print the half-template out from an illustrator image you create (photoshop can be used, but the line won't be as sharp)...or grab a pre-existing shape off the net. Then just trace it onto a piece of masonite, cardboard, plywood, etc

Then its not my shape. I don't care so much if the initial line isnt perfect. I know how I want it to look in the end.

If I found an end shape I really liked I'd think about making a more permanent template. But I only shape like one board a year. So it's not that big of an issue to me.

maybe I'm a perfectionist, but just freehand drawing the outline on both sides of the stringer would drive me insane. Even if my outline was wobbly on the template, I'd want that exact mirror image on both sides of the board.

Ya I didn't cut that line. I did a basic paper template after I smoothed out the cut side. Then cut the other side.

That's the way it's done for the backyarder if you're not using templates. Get the curves you want on one side cut and fair. Tape a long piece of paper with the factory edge along the stringer, and trace from underneath. Flip the paper over, cut it with a razor blade, then re-tape it to the stringer on the other side. Trace the outline, cut the outline, and fair it so you take off your pencil line. Perfect symmetry.

Next time try glassing it yourself. EPS, right? Get some slow kick epoxy and give it a shot!

Oh I've glassed way more boards than I've shaped. Not into it.
And no its not eps. I like a little weight under my feet.
