Anyone familiar with the Delmarva area feel free to chime in...

An opportunity may have presented itself in Pocomoke City. If you're familiar with the area by all means feedback is welcome. It's 30 minutes from the Chin, 40 from the A$$..... That's all I know. My assumption is that it's a small hick town? Will it gentrify? Is there an outdoor community there? Is it a dump?

Any input is welcome. Unless you're 16 and from there. "This place sucks there's nothing to do" is not the feedback I'm looking for.

I don't know the place intimately, but it seems like its pretty much a dump. If you're redneck or ghetto you might fit in. (No offense to all the ghetto redneck surfers of the board!). You can always just go to OC or Salisbury for social life I guess. Have you considered living a little north maybe around Snow Hill or Newark and commuting? Or even Salisbury I guess, people commute from there to Wallops but it all depends on how much driving you'd be happy with.

Lots of beautiful old homes in that town. It is a mixed community of black and white families. I fish the river all winter and have met nothing but nice people of both races. The area around the county offices and the shops is actually really nice and the fishing in the river is excellent.

I should add that it is a lot like Berlin 20 + years ago and realestate is a bargain for what you get. As far as crime statistics I have no idea but also have never had problems and I am there a lot.

Oh sh*t! I just realized that my answer was about Snow Hill not Pocomoke City. My mind is so fixated on the pocomoke river and since I launch in Snow Hill I answered based in those experiences. As far as pocomoke city is concerned it seems pretty depressed and pretty much dead, like a ghost town at least everytime I have been there. Check out this video for some insight http://youtu.be/vvBxlalXm4o

Go to census.gov and type in Pocomoke City ....there are scads of population, income, types of employment, etc, stats that should provide you a decent pic. It's a small town in a rural area. Not much chance of gentrification. Closest starbucks is OC or Salisbury.

Lol, I was wondering what part of town you'd been through that I didn't know about.

It's a ghetto ****hole, but the commute from up in the OC and Berlin area is super relaxing and easy. I would not want to raise kids in the area either....so commute for their sake.....or if you are still young and without kids waste the extra 30 minutes a day commuting

I used to work out of pocomoke and commuted form Berlin. About a 30 min easy commute. Housing is higher in Berlin but only 10-15 min from surf. Snow Hill is not a bad little town with very affordable housing only a 15 minute commute to pocomoke but about a 30 min ride to waves.
