Hey guys, I'm new to the site and figured I would ask your opinions. Can you guys recommend things to see/do in Montauk? We're going out for our anniversary next month and I'm bringing my board. The hotel is on the beach in Ditch Plains, so obviously I'll be paddling out every day. We like good food, being outdoors, and surfing. If you want to share any good breaks, please PM me as to not advertise any special spots. Otherwise, any information is appreciated...cheers!
if thu swell'z big enuff, go 2 montauk pt. it's no secret spot, that's fer sure...it needs to be pretty big southerly or SE swell on thu bouy and can take west/nw windz. utherwize, ditch offerz all u need 2 surf and takes nw/north windz. theeze r thu onleey 2 spots in thu area realleey. next stop would b in east hampton. go to gosman's for really priceey food. i usualleey just gota thu pizza playce in town for uh quick bite. there'z uh bar across thu street from thu pizza playce. there'z also unuther restaraunt nexta thu pizza playce, i've never bin tho...expect vereey priceey food and priceey evereeything.
Ok thanks. Supposedly the beach we're staying on has an awesome break. That could just be marketing BS though.
that's no marketing BS...ditch plains IZ uh legit quality break. it's mostly stone bottom. it's thu most reliable break on long island, no doubt. it's also Longboarder'z heaven...
My only Al Merrick is a 6'2" Sashimi. I will probably bring that as well since it doesn't take up much room. I have to keep in mind though that it is our anniversary
I did a honeymoon in the maldives - you should be fine doing an anniversary out at ditch fun little spot out there just may want to keep your feet up on your board: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,520044,00.html
I saw that before. It's not too bad, I mean last week I paddled through treated human waste. Good times!
ur gunna have fun surfing ditch theres 2 main spots at ditch..1 directly infront/to the left of the hotel and 1 all the way down to the left by the dunes for really good food go to the clam&chowder house and for an amazing lobster roll stop at the clam bar on montauk highway on the napeuge stretch(its on the left when driving towards montauk) also atlantic terrace can get pretty good.. its about a mile to the right of ditch in town
Thanks man, I'll check out those places. I love me some lobster rolls, so that clam bar sounds great. Do they rent foam boards anywhere? My wife will probably want to surf (for about 10 minutes) and I would like to rent her one of those. I can't wait for the surf and seafood
Dave's Grill is probably the most classy restaurant in Montauk. It's expensive, but the food is worth it. The grilled quesadilla and the coconut fried shrimp are amazing. Also look for something called a "chocolate bag" on the dessert menu. I would recommend climbing to the top of the lighthouse at the point. It's a great sight... not something you'll soon forget. There's also a museum on the first floor. There are some great hiking trails between the camp hero developement and the lighthouse. I can't tell you anything about the surf you haven't already been told! Have a good time.
restaurant I also remember Shagwong's restaurant being a pretty good place to eat (havent been in a while though...) - just on the right in the last strip of shops before ditch (few shops down from the bait and tackle place)
Thanks for all the tips guys, we loved it. The town, motel, and beach were exactly what we were looking for. There were consistently waist-head high waves all weekend. We will definitely be back to Montauk!
