    So I have to make a thread to rant some more because I'm pissed. I got laid off from my job back in February so I filed for unemployment. Well since I filed for unemployment in February, they base everything off of Oct. of 07' to Sep. 30th of 08'. I worked at my job from August of 08' to February of 09'. I also worked a temp position during Oct. of 07' until Nov. of 07'. Well, I was only able to collect 14 weeks of unemployment because of the time frame they go off of.

    ****ing pisses me off that the 4 months I worked at my good job after the time frame, Oct. 08' to Feb. 09', they disregard and it means nothing. What's up to applying to countless jobs and nothing.

    College Degree = working for $10/hr. :eek::eek:

    you should call up and apply for a extention.. chances are youll get it. and if so just work under the table at a resturant and collect. it works for most. give it a shot

    Well, I filed for a monetary appeal and that got denied..but I think because they thought I was appealing the time frame but I wasn't. My only last option is to go to an employment center and talk to someone.. but the looks of it, I'm screwed.

    ****ing ridiculous.

    Ask about ABT (additional benefits training) because most of the state universities and colleges have partnerships with UI where you can attend classes free of charge and if approved you qualify for additional 26 weeks of benefits. You just have to show that the courses you are taking will enhance your ability to find related work. Good luck

    Ahh, thanks for that info. My girlfriends sister just got fired from her job and is collecting and is going through to take classes free and get that extra benefits. I might just have to look into that. I did want to go back to school for my teaching certificate.

    Yeah, I think I'm going to try and go to a center on Monday. I believe there is one in Toms River. Anyone know the addresses or anything for that..I can't ever find it.

    I has a similar experience, when I was living in San Diego I was working at Scripps Institution of Oceanography for the same amount of time (four months) and lost my job. When I applied for unemployment they ended up giving it to me from my previous job in SNJ that I quit about a year before. The have some quarterly based system that depending on when you apply for benefits they go back 8-12 months for the pay out. If you like boats and don't mind being away from home for work you can get your Z-Card and work as a merchant marine like me. Anybody can do it that is remotely intelligent and that can meet the basic Coat Guard requirements. The pay is Really good and most company's you work a even time schedule, I work usually a three week on three off or four on four off. So in the end you only work six months out of the year and if your a surfer you got three or four weeks to go on surf trips any where in the world and the cash to do it. If it interest you or anybody else I'd be happy to give more info. Good luck!

    This is the main problem in this country!! Everyone looks for the government to take care of them. News flash!!! big brother is broke!!!! Quit asking for handouts and find a job even it means waiting tables or something until things turn around. I hear the military is aways looking for people. Perhaps you could serve your country for a few years, in return they will train you for free in any one of several hundred job skills and pay for college afterwards.

    Agreed. One of the fastest shrinking demographics in America is people who actually pay income tax. Wait tables, bang nails, lifegaurd, etc. Just because you technically CAN take a government handout doesn't mean you have to.

    News flash, I'm not looking for any handouts. I have applied to over 15 jobs and what do you know?! I got nothing so far. I'm not trying to milk the system like others who have unemployment for a year or more. I'm just pissed I didn't get the basic 26 weeks which would help out a tremendous right now.

    Stop giving the guy **** for collection unemployment. Has anyone here tried to get a job here? It's impossible. Not even McDonalds is hiring. I have friends that stooped down far enough as fast food places because they were losing their houses, and guess what they still didn't get hired even with there masters degrees!

    Well my industry (commercial maritime) is booming and hurting for people. You don't need a college degree even though I have one and aren't afraid to be away from home for a few weeks. Another pulse is you can live anywhere in the country or out of it. This guy wanted a 5k pay out over 26 weeks to go on a surf trip? I make more than that in four weeks as a deckhand, then have four weeks off to do or go wherever I want. Who wants to work at a fast food change, unless your a high school drop-out or an illegal.

    yea but the question is are you getting paid for those 4 weeks off? if no the you gota split that 5k by 8 weeks and that isnt ****.try barbering anyone who is handy can do it and its basically recession proof. and ui will give you money and pay benifits while you go to school. then just work part time at a shop. its good money too. can make anywhere from 800 to 1300 a week if you have good clientel or in a busy shop
