I saw that a few months ago. If it works like they show, it would be worth the money for sure.

They are ridiculous indeed and will be available in shops in a few short weeks. Dan ("saltyh2o") is the NC rep based in Wilmington -- I'm the rep for SC\GA.

In the meantime, a little bit about the construction: SOMA AirBags are designed with heavy-duty 600 denier ballistic polyester with a thick exterior poly vinyl chloride coating to strengthen the already tear-proof material by 25% so as to stay cool, water resistant and strong. We've also fused a heat reflective coating onto the interior backside of fabric for maximum cooling insulation.

The air compartments have been designed into narrow linear columns to keep the protective air pressure exactly where it is supposed to stay in order to deflect from damaging contact with your board. This includes an individual column that wraps around the entirety of the rails that is also fused with 1/4" closed cell foam for double rail protection as well as extra reinforcement around the nose and tail. All seams are sonic heat welded for unlimited strength.

These bags have been in R&D for the last fews years so they are proven to work.

Let me know if you have any questions. Visit your local shop in June to check SOMA AirBags out.

Given that Ridiculous boardbag fees aren’t going down anytime soon, and I’m heading to Costa Rica, what I really, really need is a board like this that can collapse into two pieces. Not a longboard, but a Ridiculous. You may have seen this board somewhere as a concept board, a carbon fiber collapsible Ridiculousor even the Pope bisect travel Ridiculous. But nobody, so far, has been able to do a shortie. It’s high time.

    airbag

    hey mike.
i was wondering what happens if your airbag gets punctured in transit. I would think that would be the only drawback- once it's popped you have no protection for your board. Or is there additional (non inflated) padding?

Hey rastamanvibration. Thanks for your interest in SOMA AirBag Designs.

I certainly appreciate your concern. SOMA AirBag Designs has spent several years perfecting the design and choosing only the best materials and manufacturing processes for our bags. We utilize the highest medical grade materials and a triple coating process that make our material substantially stronger (and more pliable) than the heaviest of travel bag materials which only use raw stock fabrics. For peace of mind, each SOMA bag comes with a repair kit that is very easy to use should the bag become damaged.

Furthermore, the rails have 7mm dual density closed cell foam rail protection all the way around along with 14mm (1/2"+) contoured foam around the tail and nose. SOMA bags also have nose/tail/rail exterior stabilizers which act as another layer of protection.

In the meantime, I've attached a picture of SOMA's founder (getting good air!) jumping on the Double Carrier bag with the noserocker facing down. Not a scratch on the boards! These bags will be in your local shops soon. I would encourage you have a look for yourself as the materials and construction of SOMA AirBags are second to none.

Thanks again for your interest and let me know if you have any additional questions.
