i just saw a featured story on yahoo about hurricanes being able to form right on the coast of the mid atlantic and closer to the U.S. as oposed to closer to Africa. This means we could be in for a mess of swell.
if a 'cane formed right here in our laps, we would be in for a swell that's just a mess, not a mess of swell.
Sometimes the tropical storms that ride up the coast can produce great surf. These swells are more like our typical wind swells rather than the long period stuff we see from The distant storms. The advantage of the storms that ride close to the coast is that offshore winds often move in as the storm exits.
