Focksakes, I got a bad one. Almost as bad as the post-Sandy one. I think it could be from the sand dredging digging up decades, if not centuries, of bacteria-riddled bottom sand. the last couple times I've been out, it has been within a mile of the barge setup. It's getting to the point where I get two or three of these a year. I know we have talked about this before but I'm too lazy to search through all the crap on here. I hear there's a new sinus surgery. But I'm not a fan of doctors (or lawyers, bankers, and car salesman for that matter). Has anyone out there gone under the knife for a sinus surgery? I need a surfer's opinion on this, not some fat-assed, landlocked, douche canoe who had it done.
Never opt for surgery until all other options have failed. And no, the dredging had nothing to do with it. If you do get 2-3 of these a year, you are a "chronic" sinus patient; it is much more likely you are not clearing the very same bacterial isolate from previous infections. If you are given an antibiotic, make ABSOLUTELY SURE you taken them all, right to the very last pill. Do not cut treatment short. Go see a doctor and get a antibiotic; tell him you get these repeatedly. Hopefully, he will prescribe something like ciprofloxacin, etc. Good luck--sinusitis sucks. I have had only 2x in my life and I hope I never get it again as it drains all your energy.
I use to get them often. Now I use the Neti-pot. But only after surfing and: 1- after heavy rains (within 2 days) 2- or anytime I get worked enough that I feel water got up my nose- which is usually 50% of bigger days. 3- surfing near dirty water (near drain pipes from nearby lakes or sand replenishment ) I really don't get them anymore but gotta use it at those times.
I think I got a sinus infection but not from surfing,as we havnt had a wave in nj since early july.at first my nose was super runny, then I went to this metal alloy plant for my job(its a special kind of metal for building nuke and fertilizer towers or something like that) and my nose stopped running.but now I have a horrendous cough and cough up flem on a 15 minute basis.guy at work *****ed at me in Spanish lol cus I hogged a big lugee right infront of his area.im like would u rather me hold it in and throw up in ur area,or just spit it out?its pretty bad,but I think its just the allergies
Are you feverish?? If so, it is a pathogen, not allergy. It is possible to have a viral sinusitis, which is different than a bacterial sinusitis.
barry u are too smart for me lol,I have no clue what u are talking about.i don't have a fever, everything is normal except the cough.im not sneezing, just coughing up flem.I had this problem a few months ago,i got promethazine and antibiotics and it cleared it up...but now its back and my insurance expired in august
I use to battle sinusitis, figured out the solution. It seems the more herb I smoke the less sick I get. No BS, it's true, I don't get sick if I have my daily dose. That and getting laid regularly.
It is possible you are asthmatic. See a doc; get spirometry (lung function testing) done. Does your breathing feel any bit restricted (hard to breath?)? I give you those questions for you to think about--you need not post answers to them here. But yes, first see about getting insurance if you can; I get it.
Barry is correct. Most sinus infections are viral and yours could very well be allergy with ragweed levels being so bad. I used to get about 3 to 6 a year but i do sinuclense religiously and use flonase every day. Get some swelling but not the full blown deals anymore.
Agreed. Regardless of whether it's viral or bacterial it doesn't hurt to get into the habit of flushing your sinuses after each surf. Not pleasant admittedly, but better than an infection. I've had tons of sinus infections in the past (apparently I'm blessed with small sinuses that are easily affected) and wouldn't wish them on my worst enemy. Good luck, mate.
Fack wedmd SI is the shyt when it comes to getting sound medical advice and especially when it comes to veneral diseases. Also, SI is great for just about every other type of advice since we have the finest web know-it-alls on the planet (and possibly off).
i used to get them but discovered that if i shake my head around after a session i can blow most of the water out of my nose.i then use a nasal antiseptic.works for me its called sina fresh
Thats the problem, people keep messing with that "ragweed" hahaha, try the icky sticky kindest of the kind, problem solved. There, you all learned something!
post nasel drip sux.. dont try and bone after a heavy surf sesh. niagra falls decides to open its gates everytime i wanna bring my lady to pound town. aint fun.
Thanks for the feedback gents (and the PM Betty). Seems like I need to be more proactive pre/post sessions in trying to prevent this. DPSUP, my current bag is of very low quality. it's just aggravating it. I may have to bake some edibles. And you are right about the getting laid part. Wife: "I thought you were sick, where are you getting all this energy?" Chavez: " Well you see, I spent half the day yesterday at work staring at boob gifs some guy Whalerus posted on Swell Info." Boob gifs a remedy for sinusitis???
Pop an antihistamine before going to sleep after surfing grimy water, helps me and my weak sissy allergies.
Put that shwag in some cookies or brownies, and use lots of it if it's of low quality, that way it does the trick, otherwise it'll be weak sauce. Last edible I had was made with G13 and it was highly concentrated... man did it send me to the moon and back! WOOOOO! Who needs Viagra when you got boob GIF's from Whalerus?
My Dr wanted to do surgery but I'm still weary about it a friend of mine did it and he said if he had the chance to do it all over again he wouldn't of done it Flonese and antibiotics are working just fine for me
i had three ENTs look at me and 2 said surgery. the last said flonase. the flonase cut my incidence down to a few a year. I would not do surgery unless there is clear imaging evidence of obstruction. if you go the sugery route, insist on the Propel stent.
