I dunno about va beach, but down south when the water starts to warm up sea lice can cause that. They SUCK, I had it happen to me once, get red bumps all over your stomach and they itch like sin. they are actually larval jelly fish from what i understand and they can get trapped under your wetsuit or trunks and irritate the sh+t out of your skin.
ask ledzepfreak about board shorts and 70 degree water about the certain area. and please led tell us the story.
we get those jelly larvae and huge red tentacly jellyfish around august time of year. You can see em floating on the face of the wave with the big red blurry blotches of the jellyfish in the background. wohoo at least it keeps some people out of the water
Mine did look like that minus the "man-hole" size red ring around it....thats brutal! mine lasted about 6-7 days. I play in a mens softball league and was glad i had time before my next game....it was THAT painful!
It wasn't from a wetsuit at all, just from surfing a lot one day in just a pair of trunks. It was a bit irritated at first, but when I tried to put some salve that some hippie gave me on it that's what happened. I guess I was allergic or something. It probably has nothing to do with the original topic of wetsuit rash, but I had to post up the pics. There's no way anybody has gotten worse armpit rash from anything....LOL.
wow...i shouldnt have read this thread...i was gonna get a 3/2 and try to make it out a few times on a weekend during the fall if i could get some time away from school/practice (5 hour drive from state college)...but now that ive read all these rash stories.................... and good luck with your rash
Don't hang out with the guidettes up in Seaside or you'll get irritated and then in about three weeks, a rash.
It actually has nothing to do with rashes but here goes. (btw, "" is gonna stand for the two buddies down there). If you are easily grossed, or are not a human of the male gender, please stop reading. This usually happens only when you wear boardshorts, because even though the water is warmer, you are less insulated and if you are getting cold, be warned, you may be attacked by your own 's. Your 's "ride up" if you will, and when you go to lay down on your board... (OWWWWWW!)
you have finally been active leddy. and what do you guys do to stop the rash down under? if you know what im talking about.
i always wear a rashguard. i find it helps enormously even when it does ride up. my 3/2 was sealed but i just replaced it with a s/s 2mil that is also sealed. the only rashes i ever got were on the back of my knees cause my old ripcurl suit wasnt that flexible. just got an xcel and the knees bend nicely so i no longer have an issue. maybe the problem is you dont have enough flex/stretch under your arms?
i should also add that i got the most aweful irritations on my neck from that suit.i always looked like i had a hicky after surfing lol
I always wear a rash guard, with and without a wetsuit. Not only does it help with stomach rash, it helps keep the sun off you and you spend less on sun block. It's a win win. They don't look as cool though, but I'm married, so who cares.
1. If it's just irritation wear under-armor jammers or something similar. 2. If it's infected (usually happens in that area) get some jock-itch cream or anti-fungal stuff. 3. Hope that the swell isn't pumping when you get a rash there ( but would you still go out everyday of an epic swell even if the rash "down under" felt like a wasp sting everytime you moved? )
scared Ive never had any problems with a wetsuit, winter or spring, but thanks to this thread, I am now terrified of: -deodorant -sea lice -jelly larvae -my own guys thanks everyone!
last weekend was out for first time in my 3/2 for this season and turns out it was a little too small...i only developed a rash on my neck but ohh man was this one bad...when i got home later that day the skin had all peopled away and the new skin underneath was bright red and moist....it hurt just to move my neck...after a few days it finally scabbed over and its finally gone away...this rush though was like 2 inches wide going all the way around my neck.
Solution Lose the suit altogether= no suit rash. Its warm enough in DE-OC now as long as the sun is out.
