Went up to Hampton for the first time today. It was ok when I was out (8-10 or so) but holy **** does that place get crowded. The north end by Cinnamon Rainbows was just packed with surfers when I left. I hate surfing in crowdes - what's appeal of that spot on a 2-3' day? Parking?
major tourist beach/hotels/casinos, easy access, visibility from major road, warmest water of the year...and people keep advertising it by name on the net
Don't have the luxury to go midweek all the time so yeah, I went surfing at 8am on a Saturday and had a good time. Better than not going surfing and forecast was crap in RI/MA. I was just shocked at how much more crowded it was at the north end than well known, easily accessible places in MA/RI on a weekend in the fall. BTW, are you trying say I shouldn't name Hampton Beach 'on the net'? There's a ****ing surfcam for the place and a large surf store - oh no, I've let the big secret out. Magic Seaweed has maps with descriptions for spots everywhere but yeah, I'm sure someone is searching this obscure forume the second they get home from Costco with their board.
I'm guessing that's not really your local spot...or you're a newb. My local spot also has a surf shop, a webcam, and directions on the surf sites (unfortunately)...but I would never mention the spot's name on here. Thanks to all that sh!t, the place is already rancho kookamonga, but if I can help keep one more beginner from going there, it's worth shutting the fvck up.
It's all getting pretty bad with humans coming from everywhere to pose and drop in . I'm staying off the grid for a bit .
That's because it is the "known" spot and easy parking. Salisbury Beach and Seabrook beach (south of Wall) also have certain spots. If can't find a local with parking worth paying for parking and walking. Like The Wall whole area breaks best about an hour after low and pretty much unrideable at dead high. Dawn patrol and mid-week best. Unfortunately now pretty much crowded unless dead of winter. Five years ago would have had place to yourself after Labor Day, suppose its like that everywhere.
What about the crowds of tatted men who pummel your weasel arse & throw your gear in the water....again?
Dude I caught epic Jenness in 1989. The place has never been the same since my absence. I do agree with this OP dude, New Hampshire is wayyy too crowded. I don't get it. Why do people who live in New Hampshire surf? They should be playing hockey, eating maple syrup, and preparing for primaries. And they can try and all.....but New England surfers will never be as cool as Jersey surfers. It's impossible. The biggest square in New Jersey would be the coolest James Dean mother trucker in New Hampshire. New England people are way too refined to be proper surfers. Yes, I know there are Puerto Ricans in Providence......Roxbury is gay. So is Dorchester. And Southie. Totally gay. A man should be able to go to a beach on Saturday in September. Ha, but in my area NO DOGS until October. Take that canine bastards.
Oh hell yeah, those dudes are totally gay in Ogunquit. Nice quaint town, though. A nice to place to take a Russian mail order bride on a romantic weekend. Though those guys at the rivermouth can be quite feminine. I bet they think they are cool too. News, nobody in New Hampshire or Maine is cool. I do NOT mean "cool" as in a "nice guy," but like a James Dean, Harry Styles, and Prince Harry type of cool. It just doesn't happen. "Wow that guy was cool" "Yeah, totally" "Where's he from.." "Maine" That just doesn't happen. Really if you are north of Brockton, MA then you probably ain't cool.
Idk man I knkw some Maine surfers who are technically drug addicts who rip pretty hard. The ones who use drugs and work trades rip. It's the white collar new englander rippers whk use sups that are super homo. Jersey is for sure more of a pure surf state, but the muscles and the tan lines and the tap out shirts ...
Crowds do suck here. Probably because there is only a handful of beach breaks, that all close out or crumble. When there is a swell it forces me to solo-surf spots that are sketchie to say the least but I would rather get my share without all the people scratching for the same wave. When a good swell does comes along, I head on out to me home waters of NJ. Good people in New England but they are surf-break starved.
Yankee do u use drugs ? Do you find yourself loathing over some morgellons? I usually use lsd annually and frequent the glass pipe for herb toasting. Surfing is way better if your a drug addict for real mang
