Went to the Tamarindo area in August and had a blast. Going back to CR in Late Oct. this time to Nosara. Any suggestions on must hit spots in the area?
Not too much going on there, just enjoy the ocean. Good place to practice bottom turns, nice slow wave. South of Samara there is a juicy wave but high creek crossings can prevent access, need good 4x4. The Harmony Hotel is super nice if you haven't committed any where, especially if going with a lady. Great dinner too, one of the biggest and best whole snappers (pargo rojo) I've had. For breakfast the tico soda up above the main road at the entrance best call.
Thanks, yeah, bringing the chick and staying at harmony. Renting a good 4x4 is in the plans already..
I didn't do any research, just kinda booked it on a whim. Figured it's not focking NJ.. know what I mean...Does it suck that bad?
Guiones doesn't suck that bad, 3rd. Although Tard has a point - - Guiones doesn't hold size well; starts closing out big-time. Paddle out then becomes an endurance test. The bigger waves will be on the north end of the beach. It's crowded in the middle put in near the Harmony cause that's where the photogs post up. You can check Surfing Nosara's website daily, see if you're in the action pics. Burgers n Beer good place for chow. Really good dinner for reasonable prices at Kaya Sol hotel restaurant. Beach Dawg also good spot for dinner but go early since they tend to run out of food. Harbor Reef also good food. Camaronal can be good if the swell is huge in Guiones. Drag those toes, stingray shuffle, going in & out of water. Safe travels, you should have a blast.
Surf on a fish when it is big or longboard when small and you will have fun. Plenty of places to rent. I have seen it almost triple OH and still holding well. Tamarindo was like HH that day and just caught Nosara for like 30 mins before dark. Don't expect barrels. If you want to explore go South past Samara through a creek that is/was 5-6 car lengths wide and go down a wood gated road. Swell was backing off and a little more than HH in Nosara while it was few feet OH with lots of push, and super playful on a shortboard. You will enjoy just being there, especially in October it will be pretty dead, and almost guaranteed swell. Dominical is nice barrel, but Nosara is much nicer beach and not nearly as rainy in October as down South. If lady don't surf you will have much more fun up North.
I agree no barrels, and long paddle out . . . but always a wave super consistent at Guiones. Can get big and the wave can be fast. North end of the beach is a bit bigger usually. Camaronal is worth the drive on a good day, you can have it basically to yourself.
