Guys like Adriano, Parko and Mick although fantastic surfers and extremely consistent, do not deserve a world title as the "Best Surfer on the Planet". How can the world champ be a surfer that doesn't attempt or land any airs. To me this is why the system is broke. There needs to be some sort of indexing for those that do not do airs. They should only get 80 percent of their final seasonal points.

Guys like Kelly and Medina, they've deserved their titles. These guys can keep up with the best free surfing aerialist and power surfers.

 

Airs are gay, that is why. If you are into airs, join the kiteboarding crowd. Surfing is not about airs.

Airs are a part of surfing. It just becomes stale when someone does the same air reverse on every wave.

Don't you guys? Lets hear what he has to say. he said what it is not about. Then what is it about?

 

Okay, I guess you need to be clued in on logical reasons:

Contests involving a particular skill are to be judged on skills unique to that activity.

Kiteboarders do airs.
Sailboards do airs.
Skateboarders do airs.

As you can see, doing "airs" is not "unique" to surfing. Surfing contests, then, should penalize for "airs". Contest waves should be ridden, not used as a launching pad for airs--that is not surfing per se. The wave then becomes a secondary item--it should be the primary item in the relationship with the surfer.

Easy enough, isn't it??.

The best surfers are not always the best "air" guys. Therefore, those who love to do air (and I can see why), should join kireboarders, sailboarders, or even skateboarders.
