I know this is gonna seem strange but I think if everyone trys extra hard we can actually talk about surfing or surfboards and not story about people sh!ting on their floor in college... Which leads me to the point of my post, are lib tech boards any good? Does anyone have any experience surfing them or the puddle jumper in their construction? Im thinking about buying one, but figured id post on here and have all the assholes of si tell me why I should or shouldn't.
Great question! I remember when I was about 5 or so, my brother and I were outside playing. All of a sudden I felt like I had to take a sh1t... My brother beat me to the door, walked inside and locked it. While he was standing behind it, he told me to go around to the garage... this was another 100 steps or so that i knew would be detrimental. I was persistent. I stood there banging on the glass door waiting for him to open it. He never did. I sh1t my pants right on the doorstep. 2 healthy logs rolled right out of my shorts. I've never ridden one but I have felt them up a few times and my impression was they are a POS, some like them though, so go for it!
I have the Bowl Series and I love it. I don't know you, so I can't really comment on that. It did feel a little different at first, the best way to explain (a number of my friends agree) is that it feels like it generates absolutely no speed until it does. Then it flies. I know how vague and probably stupid that sounds, but from catching waves to generating speed through flat sections, it goes from feeling like a tank to feeling like a rocket. The grab rails are pretty cool, but not a new thing, if you've ridden a Stretch, you know them. I had a Spectrum (Rick Bullock) back in the 80's that had them. The concave is pretty cool, but it makes other boards feel weird at first. Mine works pretty much everywhere, from shin high NY slop to double overhead Costa. The reason I bought it in the first place was to travel, which it is supposed to do well. I'm pretty careful with my boards regardless, so I hope not to find out. I would definitely recommend it, and of my friends who are solid surfers, I'd say most really liked it.
lib tech reminds me of when i was like 10 years old and would go fishing on the lake in my neighborhood. this mildly retarded girl would always come running out with her hook and bobber swinging everywhere. she would pull her shorts down and point at her stuff and try to get us to look. i hope that helps.
Those are pretty cool in the durability department but the limitations in shapes and sizes make them a no go for my old ass. They are a molded piece if I'm not mistaken and the construction is pretty interesting but I need a certain parameter in board size to have any fun. They seem to have a dense but light feel like a high quality bodyboard- like it has give to the surface and not brittleness (or pop?). Makes me think of a magnesium nail gun when you pick one up, it looks heavy and feels lightish. My friend rents some in his shop so they do hold up fairly well to kooks crashing in the shorebreak. If they can get me a 5'11" x 21" & 36 liters I would try to run a few laps on one...
I think I feel pretty similar to this. Sometimes feels like a tank and hard to get up to speed, but once it is moving it is pretty sharp. I have the ramp series in 6'2. I really like the concave deck and it is really hard to ding. Although I put my knee almost all the way through the bottom of mine and performed a sub par repair. It still works and I use it most of the time. I go through boards kind of quick in my opinion so the point of it was to get something that will last much longer. At two seasons it is still holding up. Brought it to rico and a few other places. I like it, but I'm not sure I'm gonna get too many more. There are just so many shapes and technologies to try. I'd rather see what else is out there that tickles my fancy and keep things spicy pics of me on it... BTW i have posted these before, sorry.
My overall sense without ever touching one is that if they can withstand being run over by a car they probably have 0 flex and feel like riding a boat. Then again, same was said of epoxy boards and all the crazy tuflite, sulfite, kellyslaterlite boards out there and a few of them seem to be decent if not good boards all together.
Never rode one. But I'd give it a try if I had the opportunity, just because they're supposed to be so "high tech" and "advanced"... "like nothing ever made before..." That said, I'd NEVER buy one until I had the chance to try one out, due to the cost.
everyone learned a big lesson about flex with those surftech tuflites, so I'm pretty sure flex is one of the major goals on any new board tech. The main thing I'd be concerned about w/ lib tech is the board being too light....and their fin system (I no longer own any 2-tab FCS fins) Even as stiff as tuflites were, it didn't matter too much if you got them small enough (they floated like crazy). It was just difficult to get the right size because EPS was so new and everyone was used to Clark foam dimensions (the least buoyant of any foam I've ever ridden).

It's a board, and like any other board some will like them some won't. I enjoy riding my air-e-Ola in bigger hollow surf, but hate it in mushy gutless waves. Its flex pattern is similar to most other epoxys that I have ridden, and yes it is very hard to ding. I have gotten washed into rocks quite a few times and while my fins and wetsuit have paid the price, the board is fine. It is extremely lightweight, making high wind situations difficult. The lightness and rocker do provide some pop, easy to get the fins out. the high nose makes foam climbs, and off the lips simple but the weight gets tossed around easy. I will continue to buy other shapes as long as I can get them on pro deal through work. However I can see the hang ups when pulling full sticker value on over the top marketing campaigns and construction that is different than what we are used to.
