I was wondering if anyone has had experiences with In the Eye surf shop in Buxton, NC on the Outer Banks. I'm looking to get a custom board there, and I was just wondering about quality and such. Any feedback is appreciated - thanks!
Yeah I would recommend In The Eye, Scott Busbey has been shaping since the seventies. His boards are nice, makes epoxies too.
awesome thanks for the feedback guys. I've been frequenting Hatteras for 20+ years now...lived down there the past few summers. finally got the money to get a new board, so I wanted to support my local surf shop haha.
I had an in the eye once.. it was the funnest board I've ever ridden, given it was sick little 5'5 twinny from the 80's. But I'll tell you what, that board kicked ass!
Scott Busbey is the best shaper. In The Eye are the best surfboards. I've got four of them, and I'm picking up my fifth in two weeks. I recommend the twin fin fish.
You guys know that Scott has been submitting reports every day on Swellinfo right? http://www.swellinfo.com/surfreport/cape-hatteras-north-carolina.html You should private message him, or go to his web site to contact him.
How much do his boards run? On average? Like a shortboard that you would use in the Hatteras Barrels?
I have two In The Eye boards. They're great. Scott definitely knows how to make boards that really maximize the conditions here on the East Coast. You can't go wrong.
yeah for what I'm looking for, the price he quoted seems like a steal. I've been in contact with him, and I know he's a favorite on the Island - just wanted to get some other opinions, since I'd like a new board, but it's not a necessity if you know what I mean. anyways if I ever straighten out my financial situation I'll definitely be ordering from him...
i wanna get the 9'2" longboard on his site. i need a longboard and i have never had a in the eye board. the only thing is i don't have $600
I couldn't tell you exactly why, but to me it seems that every In The Eye board that me or my friends have had have snapped after very little use. Maybe it's all been bad luck, but it's like 5 of them total and none of them have lasted more than 2 months. The shapes are definitely sick, they just don't seem to stick around for long.
we see very few of our boards broken. we repair a lot of surfboards in our factory and no brand is immune from breakage. several of the popular 'name brand' boards from california seem to have more strength problems than others, but a lot of this is probably from the riders.....ie surfing shore pound.
