i feel bad that ive been all these awesome places and she had never come, i would feel fine taking her to costa or nica, but i want something different. i want reeling reef barrels, or hallow beachies. it will cost twice as much to...i just stay in dorms. btw shes the kinda girl that likes to film and chill.
Don't do it. You won't surf as much as you want. You'll still have fun but if it's a surf mission only trip she will ruin it. I speak from experience and my wife is as chill as any woman on earth. You will feel bad as she sits on the beach roasting in the sun. You will feel obligated to do some non surf activities during which you will be itching to get back to the beach. I've been on 3 trips with her and 1 without her. I surfed more on the one without her than the other three combined.
never bring your girlfriend on a surf trip you will lose her to a local that will be paying more attention to her than you will
Blasters, the guys are right. I love my woman and as much as I would love to take her on a surf trip, I never would. Oh wait, I have actually never been on a surf trip. LOL But, if I did go, I would never bring her. Mainly becuase I know, once I get out there, I don't want to come in until I can't walk. Bring her pics and stories
On a surf trip? No. That's like taking your wife and your mistress on vacation and staying in the same hotel. It will be misery. On a vacation that you can surf but its not the primary goal? Yes. But don't act worn out to do stuff after you surf. Suck it up and show her a good time. A good tip is to pick a spot that after you surf there is more to do besides chilling on the beach watching the surf because that will drive you nuts. Get your dawn patrol in and go into town. Head back to base in the afternoon for a bit a nookie and a siesta. Surf till dusk. A couple of cocktails at sunset. Dinner and what not at night. Up at dawn and repeat.
Depends on the woman and how you set the expectations. I have brought my wife on 4 trips to PR, once to Santa Cruz, and countless road trips to various spots in FL. She isn't into surfing, but she supports my habit, but many of you guys are correct that if you don't pay attention to her she will get upset. So what I do is I make sure to get out at sunrise which helps her not get fried sitting on the beach, I can get 2-3 hours of surf in this way and I will paddle in a couple times to "take a break" but really it's just to keep her some company for a few minutes before paddling back out again. Yes it sucks getting out when you don't really want to, and yes it sucks wondering if she's getting upset sitting on the beach, but as long as you let her know up front how much time you'll be in the water and promise to do stuff with her right afterwards then she's cool. Make sure to bang her silly and take a quick nap when you get back at the room, that always helps in keeping her anxiety low and she won't care when you go back out for a 2nd session later in the day after you have taken her shopping, eating, drinking, and w/e else she wants to do. I'm always able to get two solid sessions in each day while also doing what she wants to do. There is nothing but time when on vacation, so you can do both if you play your cards right. If you want to do nothing but surf for 6-8 hours straight with no break at all, then don't bring her.
^this^ I've done the SEMI-surf trip with wife thing a few times. Spots in the Carib that had both decent waves and beautiful beaches, Southern California - three hour morning surf then do other stuff when the winds are onshore. I'm actually glad we do in ONCE IN A WHILE. Always fun waves but only a fraction of what I wanted. I think taking a trip like that once in a while makes it easier for her to relate to my going on a real surf trip with surfing buddies.
My wife is totally cool to go upcoast with for a couple nights. Or boat trippin in the Bahamas for a week. But she is very scared of snakes and bad roads freak her out. So anywhere Centro or sketchy and it would be a nightmare. As long as there is good roads, a/c and pool, a couple good bars/cafes, a couple good shops and maybe a horse to ride (calm down Crazy), she'll be happy.
No problems here. I'm one of the lucky ones; my wife surfs. I'm just glad that she allows me to come on her surf trips! The more poignant question here is why you would ever marry a non-surfer? Haha.
Your wife surfing is luck all right....bad luck. Never take your wife on a surfing trip; take your girlfriend......
I took my wife every time but 4. I would have taken her those times because one needs someone on the beach to whatch yer schitt. I'd find her a long stick, sharpen the end, and tell her to go for the gut.
