Braided line. Also make sure the spool is packed tight tight preferably by a spool winding machine this will cross-hatch the line to prevent the outer casting line to get buried in the spool. Start with short casts and retrieve your line fast. Switch to a heavier lure and make your farthest cast and make fast retrieves. That should put the proper tension on the spool when casting.

Thursday report for OCMD. Murky water, only caught 4 flounder, all throwbacks. Nice sized snapper blues all over the place, up to 13 inches. I think we caught 18 to 20 fish total, nothing big and that was after 5 hours in the boat! That brown water sucks, was really expecting crystal clear after 2 days of light west wind, oh well. Recently rebuild outboard purred like a kitten.

Used to first mate on a buddies boat offshore, I got so sick of eating tuna I was throwing it out. And I understand the "getting burned out" part! I use to love getting up at 3:00am to run 45 to 75 miles off shore, but it gets old. Now, I love catching the little snapper blues

You realize is a problem when your fishing and you should be surfing and surfing when you should be fishing.
Most of the time the conditions go hand in hand.

Grew up in Manassas, VA so I would do a lot of small river fishing, bull run mostly. Surprising how big some of the bass get in these small rivers. I love walking the trails back there and finding a spot but nothing beats putting the kayak in and doing a float.

I had a buddy with a house on the Shenandoah who would let me and my friend take out a transom back canoe with a trolling motor on it. We would zip up and down the river, rippin' lips, pulling nice small mouth and blue gill.

One trip we slayed about 30 blugies, filleted them up and had ourselves a fish fry.

I do try a lot of saltwater fishing being down in VB no but I haven't had much luck the past two years or so.

Been fishing out of the Elizabeth River, The Narrows, Sandbridge oceanfront, and Northend oceanfront. I get come blues and the odd mullet, but I've got a soft spot for drum and stripers.

Typically, this time of year I head down to Buxton and join the heard surf fishing at the point. Only a few months left for this years beach driving pass so I recon Ill be back down there pretty soon.

October last year, surfed for about an hour (conditions were blown out and crappy), then walked over to the inlet and fished for about 2 hours, killed the blues. Swells were crashing into the rocks breaking all over me, I was soaked. It was an awesome day! PS, I was the only one out there. Other guys were further into the inlet were the wind and waves were not as strong.

Reminds me of one Thanksgiving morning... went with my brother-in-law at dawn and limited out on pheasant, then went and had breakfast, then headed down to the beach and limited out on stripers! I'll bet I could never do that again if I tried every T-day for the rest of my life.

Have some friends who years ago went offshore fishin' all week end and on the way back everybody was crashed except the captain when one of the guys went to take a leak off the back of the boat and fell overboard. He said at first he was laughing and started calling out but no one heard him. He just watched the boat get smaller and smaller. He realized he was in deep ish and took off his pants and inflated them a s best he could. He said he let the swells carry him to rest from treading water. After a little over a 1/2 hour the captain woke everybody up freaking out cause he couldn't find the dude. They called the Coast guard and doubled back. Luckily it was a calm day and they found the dude after he had been in the water for an hour or so. The captain, who is a pretty tuff guy, said he cryed like a baby when they pulled him out the water. He was lucky the current didn't drag him too far off.

Dang! Big responsibility running a boat. I see all sorts of crazy stuff on the water and have been with a few mself. Makes me wonder sometimes how irresponsible some are. In this case, sounds like the cap. knew his role well and took it to heart.
    wow.
More boat owners need to hear that story.

When I was out in the boat yesterday were were people everywhere, on the bridge, in other boats etc. I had to pee bad and tried to slyly go off the side and was hit by a wake and almost went over. I did manage to pee all over my leg. I told my buddy, that next time I'm going in the bilge.

Enter the urine thread. I like the whiffle ball bat idea, problem is I would still dangle out the other end.

All the guys on board had been going offshore since they were kids. Just got a little too comfortable/careless. Can't imagine a week end on the water with out beer legs.lol. Capt. is/was a very responsible guy so I know he was on his game. He doubled back using his GPS and fortunately the guy had not drifted far off their original track.

Hope to be fishing tomorrow before surfing in the afternoon!

Thanks LB. This Saturdays tide and conditions look stellar for an early morning bass attack. Where I fish, an hour past high tide with a rising sun is perfection!
