Sunday afternoon Delmarva - winds straight offshore, clean a-frames for several hours. Best sesh in a long time. Stoked on 3/2 without booties - love this time of year - crowds thinned, sandbars in shape, water hanging in above 60, more swell on the way for midweek.
damn!!! I was all dialed in to hit the DMV today, but instead I'm hanging out at Johns Hopkins Hospital where my daughter may/may not have surgery tomorrow. Thanks for posting the pics mitchell, at least it confirms my gut feeling that knew it would be worth the trip from inland.
probably would if he could...stance too narrow, board too thick and pinny, etc. Looks like all the old geezer longboarders at my spot...only they don't dress like a traffic cone.
These were just taken out front (in Surf City) It's nice when you don't have to go out looking for waves. We lost our high tide sandbar with that last storm but mid to low tide I ain't got to go no where. I've been pleasantly surprised on how good it's been.
Friday was typical fun, small, warm water. No leash, no wetsuit, no worries. Squeezed into a couple of left-hand barrels. WH+ maybe. Today was BOMBING! What a difference! My lunch spot doesn't handle big swells very well, but patience paid off. Got 4 sick rides in an hour, and a bunch of closeout bomber barrels. Put on the leash before I knew how big it was, and happy I did. The sets were probably standing up OH+ and it was breaking HEAVY. One bomber stripped my fin and sock clean off. Took some wandering around in the soup to find 'em. Got well and truly sucked over the falls too. Dove to the bottom, literally touched the sand, but got scooped up and backflipped over the falls by a dredging sandmonster. No turtle takeoff for me! Scored a beaut of a green-water left-handed barrel that held up perfectly. CH-HH+. Might go to a real break tomorrow if this keeps up!
Surfed Sunday in fairly clean waist to stomach high waves. Was chatting with an old friend when the water exploded aboot 15 feet from us! She was sure it was a hammerhead. I knew it was a shark. Looked as if he attacked a dolphin. We both pulled our hands and feet up and stood still for a few. We saw the sharkfin cruising around some more so we headed to shore and got out. There were a handfull of other dudes who got out the water and we all watched the shark cruising around for 5 minutes or so. I'm guessing he was in the 6' to 7' range. A few of us walked a couple streets down and paddle back out. It took awhile to not be spooked.
Had some fun on Saturday in victory at sea conditions. Cleaned up Sunday and did some sand recon with my shoulder after falling from the top of a head high tube. Sitting on our deck, we saw a shark hit something right after my son and I got out of the water Saturday. I needed the water... I had been dry for too long!
CB friday was the t*ts here, sat was rough and choppy and Sunday had a little clean up. Seems it's been sharkier than usuall around here. Still got all my parts so all is well.
