Not sure where you are/were in June, but June 28th or 29th (can't recall which day it was exctly) was better IMO, esp in OCMD. Warm water, bigger barrels, cleaner swell.
Sure, I got a calendar on my wall. But that was the perfect combo for NJ. Swell direction, medium offshore wind, swell period, sunny, no hoods, no gloves, incoming tide late afternoon. I'll go out on a limb and say it will be the best day of 2015.
I did hear LBI was kegging in June, but I have a hard time seeing a non tropical summer swell being stronger than a massive cold front
I'd find it hard to argue with you on that one stinkbug... a really, REALLY good day for barrels. I always look back at the buoy data for reference after a good swell.... and I'm def not complaining here... but for "as good as it gets" conditions up here in No Mo Co, yesterday's swell needed more south in it, and a few more feet in size. 10' @ 10sec from the SSE with offshore wind is EPIC status. To compare, yesterday was about 6' at 9sec from the SE, which makes for nice, big barrels, but many of them unmakable. The more south in the angle of the swell, the more size you can add without closing out, as long as the period stays in the 9-10sec range. More than that makes the swell bend too much and either close out or miss many of the northern spots completely. But what we saw up here yesterday... which was solid 8-10' peaks and spitting barrels... is exactly what you'd expect with the swell size and period we had.
Clifford likes 10ft @ 10 seconds out of the south, but will take anything he can catch. Happy Halloween Ryan
So much fun yesterday. Got out early and it was ok. But not great. Got back in from 3 to dark and it was siiiiiccccckkkkk.
M.b was ridiculous from 1:30 till 2:30 with right barrels blowing wide open to easily scoot out , then it got scary, board breaking sheet. So I rolled south to the poop house and went wave for wave with a rad dog from LI named Jaun who was a pig dog specialist (goofy ) the lefts were golden with the sunset . This is what we live for kids . Let's hold our breathe for the next . God bless us all . Yeeheww! !# Thread closed
#thread back open It ended up being damn good up here. Surfed a spot I never paddled out at before and was swallowed by the crowd instantly. I surfed like shiet for 3 hours and resorted to just getting angry and everyone sitting underneath one another. Eventually got better and ended up having a pretty fun session. Yesterday morning I snuck a few in before work by myself, and it was glorious
I totally agree... It was good and almost epic just cause the barrels looked cool from the shore- but not enough south in the swell. We really need a lot of south otherwise it closes out and not makeable. Maybe some waves are makeable- but when there's more south almost every wave is perfect. Last time I remember it lining up like that and with decent size was the swell of last thanksgiving. Sure we had plenty of 6 ft great days... But all the bigger days really haven't held up I'm not saying it wasn't good... But I don't know about epic status...
Hey has anyone seen that kid Rudy Antenbi from deal surfing? After all that went down I happen to notice an influx of kids his type checking the waves and surfing in spring lake. Saw I kid out yesterday that resembled him - he had a 4 or 5 mil on with the hood on the whole time! I asked him if he was hot- and he was like 'no I'm fine' I little weird- but I wonder if the kid is running scared now... #rudyconspirousy
Yeah He was out with us @ the poop house, he sat off the peak aways. If he's a pro Juan and I are Friggin super heros....#whatatoolbag!
Yup -it was around here. However, I surfed neither Thursday or Friday. Had a wake and a funeral and mass, and burial to participate in. A thirty-five year friend passed, and his wife requested my wife and I stick around to render some support for her. We did exactly that, even if it took 2 days of our lives to do so. If not that, what for then, are good friends, I ask?? The ocean will provide more swells, but great friends are hard to come by.
