    not grom intro

    Hey y'all,
I'm brand new to surfing, just been out a couple times (in Belmar, NJ) after taking a lesson at Eastern Lines. Bought a 3/2 ripcurl full suit from EL, which I hope will let me get out there a few more times. I just got a used 8' Ricky Carroll single-fin board which I hope will work out ok for me...it's pretty similar in shape/size to the rental boards I used. I'm a fit early 50s guy, 5' 10" and 165 lbs and a fairly decent swimmer, though I haven't swam much lately.

Anyone surfing on Sundays in Belmar (or nearby) that won't mind a not-grom hangin' around semi-drowning, let me know.

Will post pics of the RC, which cleaned up very nicely. I just gotta rewax it before I get out there.

    Thanks

hey bro, be sure to kill yourself this holiday season. definitely take a few people with you.

your suite is too thin already. eastern lines in my world is cocaine from long island.

best way to learn to surf is to stay home and post. try putting your face in boiling water. the end.

You might get another month with your wetsuite if you got boots and gloves

Your sensitivity is not a characteristic we admire, you can't stay here if you cry or whine. I think you should challenge someone to a bench off and since you already wear depends and have one foot in the grave maybe you could challenge one of the wahine's but let me warn you they are tough and you stand a chance of getting your $hit thrown in the water.

Get over to the skate park, there's a judas in a white van who will take you to new breaks.

Good luck Gromps! Stating at 50, that's a big achievement.
Are you ready for the BELMAR or is the
    "MAR" ready for you?

Gromps. I like that. Never too old to be a grom. If you don't want to buy a 4/3 just get a hooded thermal layer for under your wetsuite.

50+ is not a good age to get into surfing...it takes being in very good shape and decades of experience/knowledge to get any good at it. On the other hand, boogie boarding takes no skill and uses the legs to paddle...might want to try that, instead

This is a heavy line up. Stay out of the impact zone, and make sure your leash is tied correctly.
