    Hey folks,

I'm in the market to purchase a new board; currently I surf a 9' Torq with a thruster setup, but I think I'm about ready to start my quiver. I've been back in the surfing game for two years now after a long hiatus of occasional surfing in high school and I would like to get a shorter board. I'm not sure where I should start.... Texas surf is a little sporadic, but we do get some nice swells that a shorter board could really open up in. I'm 6'0 - 170lbs. Kosher. I can bench 200 lbs, so if we need to have a push-up contest before we begin, I think I can hang.

Bro! You can't can not and shouldn't should not start with questions! The internet is full of sites where you can get all the useless info you need , and btw you might try your local surf shop before anything else. I'm I am Torqued off ! but not 9 feet just yet.

Check out surf specialties. He has a website too. Guy by the name of Fulbright. He is a shaper in Galveston. Good dude, great boards.

I used a semicolon, so no I'm not an idiot. I thought maybe you guys on this forum could give me some insight, in the off chance that some of you may have started off on longer boards and invested in shorter boards. Fulbright is awesome. I planned on going by there to talk with him (I also bought my board from him), but I wanted to get some opinions on here as well. Thanks anyway

I started longer and worked my way shorter. I'm not as tall as you but I went from long to a 7 footer. It was really wide though. I think the wider you can go the better because of our waves. Fullbright shaped me a 6'9". I love it. It's pretty wide and I have it set up as a quad so it's more skaty. I rented quite a few but buying longer than a 7 didn't make much sense to me.

So I have this recently-retired doctor friend of mine whose specialty was circumcisions. In fact, he was so proud of his work that he saved every foreskin that he circumsized over the years.

After he retired, he had no idea what to do with all those foreskins...so he decided he'd take them to a local taxidermist.

The taxidermist asked the doctor what he wanted to do with them. "I dunno...surprise me", the doctor replied. "OK, come on back in a week and I should have something ready for you" said the taxidermist.

So the doctor returns the following week. "So, whaddaya got for me?" the doctor asks, and the taxidermist hands him a brand new wallet.

"A WALLET?!? Is that all you could think of?" the doctor asked incredulously.

The taxidermist replied, "well, yeah...but when you rub it, it turns into a suitcase."

Since you tried to do a proper hello thread (but forgot to post pics of your dog) I will help cause I know you want to know.

If your olDer then 20s I would suggest a bort around 7ft- but pay close attention to the shape and outline. You want something wide and thick - and not too pointy (like a gun). Maybe s fish or just your typical thruster shape (like an al merrick flyer)
