I got backpaddled quite a bit in La Jolla area. Some Asian dude was all about snaking. I didn't say anything because of all the youtube videos of Asians pulling wicked martial arts stuff in street fights. Asians are a wild card for sure. At Higgins up here in ME I am noticing that dudes go frontside regardless of which direction the wave breaks. Thats frustrating because they'll give you a full on snake when you have ROW privs.
Whew, I'm glad most people seem to be in agreement. I wasn't sure if there was some new surf etiquette gaining traction due to some breaks getting too crowded. I admit its confusing as hell to see a bunch of clowns do an obvious drop in and no-one seems to care as long as they exit relatively quickly. Its even more confusing when it happens multiple times on the same wave. At first I figured maybe the regulars were picking on a tool, or a new face in the lineup -but it happened to the "shredders" who had the spot dialed in as well. So lets change gears a bit -when it is OK to drop in? Only time I do it on purpose is when my friends all agree its time to head to the beach for beer-o-clock, and as soon as the decision is made to take "one last wave" a crazy lull comes, after way too long waiting for a wave (any ride-able wave) a good one comes your way, and its clear we're all going. Party wave is declared.
The other day my buddy paddles right past me to go for this wave, I grabbed his leash and yanked him right off. Some dude sitting near us was cracking up. 2 points for me! I like the party wave thing! My problem is, I don't want anyone to hit my board and put a ding in it, so I tend to take the second wave.
lol tomorrow I'm going to surf the most crowded break in nj,i wont name it because I don't need any of u folks trying to tag along lol.but I can gaurentee Il be the only one in the water at this spot.summer time wave warriors are gone, only thing il have to worry about is the groms getting out of school, but hopefully my sesh will be done before that happens.im gonna try to take a pic tomorrow,if its actually good, and youll see the most crowded spot in nj with no crowd lol, just me and my lonesome
Do it cepriano -is it looking good up in jerz for friday? Supposed to be fun down in MD -which means of course I can't make it. Take pics and yeah be very wary of the after-school groms, especially when they travel in packs, all Children of the Corn style...
I have a tuf-lite longboard with dings all over the nose, mostly from letting beginners/relatives borrow it. I've seen people notorious for dropping in think twice about going in front of me because it looks like I've run over a bunch of people. In reality, I've only run over a couple tourons at most.
So, there is this dude on the banks (Delbert), that used to pull all kinds of shenanigans. When we were groms, I guess he was like 30 when I was a teenager....big long beard, always riding a 7-8' short board (wide and thick and you did not want to get hit by him). He would paddle out with a bar of sex wax on the nose of his board with a Budweiser stuck to it. Any chance he would get, he would set up in the middle of the pack and when a set came...."Party Wave" he would yell and take off in the middle of the pack. I remember how funny he was and how much fun he made the line up. Nobody really got pissed at him even though he would jack up a set wave.
I got a ding on my board yesterday I was surfing my local break jaws. we have kook tow ins all the time. I got dropped in yesterday by this kook I ran him over with my log, then he ran into some rocks and kept crying out make it stop!!! he was never herd from again. I then made love to his mother, my kok fell off the next day.
Ye olde "War Board". Big, yellow, lots of duct tape. Strictly for crowd control. I've had guys boost airs over me while paddling out, all I did was hoot (what can you do?) - no harm no foul. I wouldn't mind if I was quick dropped by a few hot wahines, that would be cool. Otherwise, it would be funny at first, then after repeated clown drops, I might get creative. Doubt it though, as long as they were kicking out. Kids these days.
