+1 on the Bean Boots. But it's not really a hiking boot. More of a hunting boot. Mine have been re-soled twice. For cheap, too. But Bean does sell predator calls...

    Wolverines
I've worn the same pair to work every day for 18 years and that includes riding my motor sickle to work every day for about 15 of those years. I have a second pair of Wolverines that are more for hiking or hunting in mild weather. They're pushing 10 years with no signs of decay.
Not sure if they sell or promote the killing of K-9 species.

Hey Seldom, ever check out Limmers?
    http://www.limmerboot.com
Handmade in Intervale, NH. Classic, rugged, last a lifetime boot
I've had a pair of the Limmer Standards since 2000, had them resoled a few years ago, and they are still in great shape. Awesome local business

Find a company, preferably in the US of A (good luck) that only manufactures boots. Most that deal in outdoor clothing and sporty fashion do use coyote and other natural fur in some of their products. As you know a dogs ass in your face is not pleasant.

Those Limmers look sick, I wish I got out enough to justify that kind of investment. I have a pair of White's, I'm not super stoked on a couple of things about them, quality-wise. I've heard good things about Nick's, though.

Look at Vasque Sundowners at an intermediate price point.

And Slashdog, just get Uggs, that's basically what they're made for.

Dude I know but I associate that uniform with some unholy stuff, so I'm pretty resistant to wearing it. Winter is coming... I just want something that looks less douchetastic.

Always dug the Sundowners, but worried about breathability.

SBX, was that you I saw leaving on a Bicycle at sundown on Friday? Man, what a fun swell.

Depends what you are looking for. I have moved away from heavy leather for all but serious mountaineering. Salomon makes some good light goretex models. I have had good luck with Lowa and Vasque in the past.
