Anybody gonna make some new years resolutions? Generally I'm not big on new years resolutions but I have to admit I've been slack for a couple years with over indulging with the hard liquor so I'm gonna quit for the first 3 months of this year and try to dial back my liquor consumption majorally thereafter. This leads me to my second resolution which is to get in better shape by eating better and exercising more. I figure if I'm not hungover I will be better aboot getting off my lazy arse. Especially in need of cardio to improve my surf sessions.

My resolution is to not make any resolutions. HA I am good with the gym, I need to start adding cardio to my workouts instead of just surfing. Especially since I only get to surf a couple times a month and sometimes less, depending on what's going on. I wanted to try to slow down on the beer a little bit, then I got a home brewer for Christmas. HA HA

I got a jump on my new year's resolution to quit smoking (cigarettes not herb). After 40 years of heavy smoking I'm off the cigs for three weeks now. Tried to quit several times before but I know this time it's gonna stick. Yeah, I'm on the e-cigs so I'm still hooked on the nicotine but I'll ween myself off that eventually. Feels so good to be over this awful habit. Finally.

Last yr I upped my cardio and stretching game in a major way. Have not stopped yet. I'm 37, Last year and the years leading up to 37 I though age was affecting my surfing. All was not lost but I felt like id lost a step. Now, 1 yr later i'm surfing as good if not better than I was at 20. Do the cardio and stretch correctly you will not regret the results. It was watching tom caroll's barrel at the pipemasters that made me call bull**** on myself and up my game. ***however...I did not slow down on the liquor. My bad. Good news is now that i'm in peak physical condition hangovers are short lived or non existent.

15' was the year to lose 15 pounds and get back to 185. I did that and surprisingly holding steady through the holiday gorge:eek:

16' needs to be the year I strengthen my core. I am going to focus on strength and endurance training, so I can surf harder/longer/more aggressive. My surf trip last year to HI was a wake up call. I surfed hard and had some epic sessions but waves @ 6'+, I could definitely feel the extra 15lbs...especially when getting worked on the inside!!!

I had a couple injuries over the last two years and was not able to keep active for awhile. The older I get the quicker I can gain 10 or 15 lbs. I'm gonna drop about 15 this year and get back into shape or die trying. That first paddle out I really feel like an old fart. Once I loosen up I'm good for awhile but definitely need to work on the cardio for surfing.
