the fishermen never go away,the surfers do tho.most ppl stick to the cove with the long rock/boulder line, whatever u call it lol.i don't believe in the word "locals" for sandy hook.nobody lives on the island other than the people stationed at the fort.if we are calling nearby towns locals then I guess I'm a local lol.i love the hook in the winter,its like a deserted ghost island,so peaceful

 

that cracked me up. I'm sure there are people there who call themselves "surfers" too. People get pissed that they live so far from the beach. they are also usually the ones on here acting hardcore and have all the posts.

what would u call it?barrier islands is the correct term I believe,like seaside,lbi,etc...idk its not surrounded by water on all sides,but 3 sides has water lol,il call it an island

 

actually yes it is an island,because u have to drive over a bridge to get there lol

 

I'd call it a peninsular, if we're being all technical.

In all seriousness, only surfed choke a few times, but was always under the impression it was connected at the entrance..
Always though LBI & brigantine were the only "islands" in NJ

 

lbi is a beautiful place,havnt been there in years tho,i think its exit 63 on the gsp.i used to go down there and rent a wetsuit for a week during a swell and just stay there for a week in my car,the place is so mellow,never had any problems with the locals or police,everyone is friendly as hell,way friendlier than were I'm located lol.it takes me like 2 hours to get there and I don't want to put my car through the abuse.but yea id call it an island

Pave it?? Well no, they can't. You see, Surfrider rallied and they made it into a National Park....not allowed to make changes for large stretches of that beach. But they could cut down the palms and put up 3 cell towers.....

I was pissed they blocked it off so you cant park right on the beach now. kinda sucks parking with the tourists
