I agree. Furthermore, first person that invents or comes up with a good glove that doesn't leak, lasts a few years, and is NOT outrageously expensive, will soon be a multi-multi-millionaire. Gloves are the "weak-point" in suit technology at present.
I got 7m scuba booties,water gets in but its fine.i got 6m hypeflex claw gloves,water gets in,but its fine lol.... I never had a problem I always thought that was normal,doesnt affect me so idc
being in NC, my ratty old 1mm gloves get the job done for the month or so it cold enough to wear them. Haven't needed them yet this year.
Xcel drylock gloves 5mm, no problems. Rip Curl Flashbomb boots 5mm, no problems. So far I've still been using a 3/2 with 2mm gloves and 3mm boots
If someone comes up with a flexible material that traps enough water to be warmed by the body (hence the name wetsuit) that does not deteriorate when exposed to salt water will be a millionaire. Leaking isn't as much of a problem compared to a full flush. Poor seam construction resulting in constant flush, neoprene, and poor fit are the main factors in a cold wetsuit. Until new materials are found we will have to suffer through numb toes and fingers.
I agree with the second part, based on way too many bad gloves from O'neill, Xcel, and especially Hyperflex, gloves are the weak point. The first part IDK if there are millions to be made in selling a $40 item that doesn't require yearly replacement. They might be better off selling us a new pair every winter.
Xcel seems to have the better gloves- as far as not leaking as much and warm... But still only lasts a season maybe two... This is why I opt for the mittens- seems to have less problems with leaks and they are extra warms. Just can't text on my iPhone 9 while surfing 23ft waves at the Belmar. But thankful for Siri
im on a second season of flash bomb mittens. so far so good. nimal wear, minimal flush, the gasket around the wrist helps when your suit doesn't provide anti flush closures on the wrist no luck with xcel... my fiance got me a pair of 3 mil body gloves that are fully dipped for christmas this year. Once the water warms up i will let you know how those go.
you aint lying. first i saw those i was like whaaaaaaaaat thats awesome! hey since we're on the subject and im actually around, anybody recommend a good sealer for seams? i feel like my right boot (flashbomb) MIGHT be just a tiny bit non air tight. i figure if i go over the seams with something suitable it should resolve the issue. thanks in advance!
Anyone else get contact dermatitis from gloves but not suites? I seem to have developed this problem with my Xcel and Rip Curl gloves/mittens. I'm trying out some Patagonia gloves to see if a different neoprene formula helps.
My 5mil drylock gloves are warm and don't flush... but are so hard to get on and off I end up stressing the materials to the point of failure after about 2 years of regular use. Then is a series of repairs until there's catastrophic failure, and I'm left standing in the parking lot with a half a glove in my hand. I buy two pair of 5mil boots at a time and alternate. Keeps the funk factor down.
I just used that shyt a few weeks ago after I noticed a clean tear through my knee pad seam.worked great,still got half a tube,i put like 6 coats on to be sure. and I never used a wetsuit that actually kept u completely dry.i thought the technology works by letting in some water,and ur body warms that water up and it keeps u warm.when I get out the water I probably have a pint of water in each booty,and some more in my gloves.ur good until u take them off.i think the technology is great,and I use a cheap suite lol.guys been doing this since the 60s in the northeast and they didn't have those fancy suites with glued seams back then so man up!!
I have a pair of oneill psycho 1.5 mm gloves that seem pretty good. although i saw quite a few guys out without booties or gloves last week.middle january . thank you el nino
