Desk jobs aren't too bad. IF you're salary... I stroll in about 10, usually do 1.5-2hr lunch, leave by 3 or 4. 3-4 hours of actual work in a given day. I do have to put in some overtime (unpaid) but it's usually only 2-3 nights a month.
I have a desk job in NYC. I go to the gym every other day on lunch. Work from home and DP when there's surf or bail out in the afternoon and finish what I'm working on in the evening. It took a little while to get into a position professionally to be able to have this option. I do work late almost everyday, though - if i can get into the gym or surf when there's waves, it doesn't bother me.
I know some people that make a crap ton of money yet take zero vacation days, as in zero a year. Yeah they made a lot last year but sold an entire year of their life for it. Crazy IMO
Only one reason to get married & that's temporary insanity. Other than that, it's to have kids. If no kids are on radar screen? Then it's utter stooopidity to sign the financial assets parsing document that is known as the state marriage 'license.'
How many of you as kids said, "When I grow up, I want to have a desk job" ? I know, I didn't. Yet that's exactly what I have now and what I've had for a long time. After getting out of the Navy in San Diego, finding a Navy civil service job in Ventura/Port Hueneme which I thought would be temporary, I just sort of settled. Heck, I lived on the beach in a mobile home, was able to do the things I wanted after work (SCUBA, windsurf, fish, camping along the Central Coast), and was just down the road, sort of, from where I went to college (San Luis Obispo) . Met my wife to be on a blind date in Oxnard. Her brother was in the SeaBees at the time and stationed in Port Hueneme. Turned out that she was from Rome, NY, where my Dad grew up. Her Dad and mine had been classmates in HS. My wife and I were married in Ventura. Anyway, I'm getting off on a tangent here after 4 Molsons. (I like Canadian beer) Just saying that events and unplanned challenges can happen along the way that may change the way you thought you were headed. That first civil service job with the Navy and those that followed were OK but never inspiring. They were adequate, paid the bills, kept us fed and a roof over our heads. But I was never a "career" person. As long as I could live near the water and do the things I wanted outside of work, I was fine with that. Moved with my family from CA to VA in 97. Took up surfing 3 years ago. This was soon after watching some older guys early one morning off Surfers Point in Ventura during work-related trip back to CA. I still have a civil service desk job with the Navy (the Dam Neck base where I work is on the beach) and plan to retire in 5 years with total 40 years combined military and civil service. So like I said, as a kid, I never aspired for a desk job. Nonetheless, I was able to provide for my family, generally live the lifestyle I wanted, and accomplish the things that mattered most to me. Rambled on a bit more than intended. Been working on these cold Molsons while listening to the wind and rain hitting the house. Stay safe this weekend.
After many years in college I acquiesced into a desk job to pay the bills. 3 promotions later in doing pretty well for myself. Getting into long term investments as an escape plan. Weekends off and i need to give 24 hours notice for a paid surf day. Not bad at all. We have a gym too
The Navy bases where I've worked or traveled to all had pools and gyms - some of them pretty good - which I took advantage of, usually free of charge. Best of all, Dam Neck, where I work now, is on the beach.
Yeah, but....do you have Zika virus there??? That is the new panic button in the news; we are all going to die of microcephaly from the infection!!
