Anyone thoughts on wearing a thurmulation heated rash guard under a good 4-3( flash bomb plus) for the whole winter here, Northeast??? Read you can get away with this as long as you have a good 4-3! Please, any advise before I make that expensive decision????

Had a friend who did it last year - said he was good MOST of the time. I was tempted to buy one this year. Until a few weeks ago I saw I my friend in the water- asked him why he was wearing a 5mil and where was his heated vest. He said the vest broke. It worked good for one season. That's the story I read as well on a lot of reviews. I'm sticking to the 6 mil- always warm lol
Btw with the newer suits- it's hard to tell the difference between a 5 and 6 mil. If you have a good 4/3 then just get a 6- you'll end up wearing it like 7-10 times a year in Jan to feb/mar. Unless you paddle out every time there is a bump in the winter... Regardless of conditions (I only go when it's good in the winter..)
Just want to be able to pop up after 45 min without feeling like I'm tied to the board! This is my 3rd winter and 4th year surfing! Maybe Im not in the winter shape I should be! Thanks for everyone's help!
I was out for maybe 2 hours yesterday in MA with a Patagonia R3 with a rash guard underneath + boots, hoot and mitts. I was pretty cold when I got out but it's pretty manageable. Really 35+ and sunny and water above 40 and that combo is fine. I'll take a month off when the water gets into the 30s though... Long boarder though, so less immersion while waiting.
I was just going to suggest he buy a case of ribbed Trojans and glue them all together. Apply "Dougs Non-Slip Whale Jiz" in between the ribs. You will be all set.....
hey man, my .02 if you're buying a new suite, go for isurus. i own 3 (3/2 4/3 and now 5/4) got two as gifts and 5/4 off a website black friday/cyber monday sale for like 40% off. front zip, super fast drying, compression technology whateverthat means. stetchy, bouyant, really warm (no wind chill like lests say xcel, from what i hear.. and some other brands) and LIGHT. im in a 5/4 right now, and im just on the crapper. no seriously though. if thats an option. aside from that i've thought of trying my flashbomb vest under the 4/3....havent got around to it, so, watching this threade as it breaking. good luck!
Of course if you yourself had tried you wouldn't have failed cuz you are Barry and Barry don't fail Saw a guy yesterday with trunks over his 3/2. I'm sure that helped a lot
That sounds awesome. It makes me want to paddle out with a g string and bra on top of my wetsuit. Thanks for the idea.
This thing is pretty interesting Philo. I invested in a quality winter suit this year, but this could bridge the gap to 4/3, and maybe even be a great summer alternative to my old cut-in-half-wetsuit 'top.' Do you have one?
got a 5 mil isurus and love it. the chest zip popped off the track a couple of times last year and I had to get it repaired, but the company hooked me up this past fall and the suit is now gold.
I feel like I'm the only one who's had a problem with their suits. I have the 232 and it's way too constricting. I feel like I paddle easier in my 4/3 drylock.
I've had mid ranged priced oknell suites and I'm still using a 4 year old 4/3. A few years from random stuff other than that solid and always fit perfect...very warm.
