Sen. Bernie Sanders’ plan for comprehensive financial reform is criticalfor avoiding another “too-big-to-fail” financial crisis. The Senator is correct that thebiggest banks must be broken up and that a new 21
st Century Glass-Steagall Act,separating investment from commercial banking, must be enacted.Wall Street’s largest banks are now far bigger than they were before the crisis, andthey still have every incentive to take excessive risks. No major Wall Streetexecutive has been indicted for the fraudulent behavior that led up to the 2008crash, and fines imposed on the banks have been only a fraction of the banks’potential gains. In addition, the banks and their lobbyists have succeeded inwatering down the Dodd-Frank reform legislation, and the financial institutions thatpose the greatest risk to our economy have still not devised sufficient “living wills”for winding down their operations in the event of another crisis.

I'm a bit torn on to big to fail rhetoric but do agree on separating investment banking from commercial arms. Dodd-Frank is crushing the community banks that is crushing folks in the community that need it most (small business, African American...so called black caucus recently became hypocritical with this fact as they admitted such).

Did you cut and paste that from Bern's website?

It was from an article where a bunch of economist were signing their names to support Bernie. I'll have to find it to give you the source.

JayD, it's all good. I don't think Bernie would be able to do a lot of the things he proposes. Trump, Cruz, Rubio and Clinton scare me more. Have a good weekend.

Agreed -Its absurd that speculative entities can also be depository banks and not require adequate firewalls to keep these things separate. I mean, that's just common sense, or at least it should be. And yes you're right about the ridiculous pricing of medical services generally. Great advice to read EOBs -its astonishing how much some basic and routine services cost, with a good insurance plan most people don't even notice it because their insurer has negotiated rates with the provider to basically "adjust" a huge portion of the bill (i.e. reduce the billed amount). So if you're doing physical therapy, chances are you're being charged around $150 to upwards of $300 per visit. The insurer says, we've contracted with you to reimburse you $100 for those services per visit, so with the insured's say, $20 co-pay the insurance company only pays $80.

And don't even get me started on prescriptions. We pay more than customers in any other advanced country even though many of those meds are developed, created and patented in the United States. Our tax dollars often support the development of new medication which pharmaceutical companies then turn around and gouge us on. Interesting how we're also one of, I believe, only two advanced countries which allows pharmaceuticals to be advertised directly to consumers.

Do you sometimes go to sleep at night and wake up tired in the morning?? Well we've got a drug for you!

    Ahhhhhh...

Back when our country was feeling its oats after defeating the Nazi and Japanese imperialistic attempt to take over the world we taxed the rich...we taxed corporations.....we produced more than half of the world's goods...

    Trenton Makes The World Takes

Now, there is offshore tax havens and the right does everything it can to decrease taxes for the wealthy and corporations.....

So, we don't manufacture shat no more...

Our roads and infrastructure are crumbling.......

Yeah, visit any Northeast city and witness the abandoned factories which used to ensure jobs for those who weren't the most soundly intellectual citizens. Look at the neighborhoods that resemble third world countries.

    And now it's all over..

And y'all wonder what is wrong.

No, he doesn't blame all the world's problems on Global Warming, which to you right wing fanatics doesn't exist.

He espouses the ramifications and the influence it has on world problems.

Even though LazyE and JayD are on differing sides, they are practically the only ones on here with relevant opinions. The rest of you offer some typical nonsense...

Right, the democratic party, which made this country great - GO CHECK YOUR FUKING HISTORY - is all aboot giving free benefits to all the minorities affording them a lavish lifestyle. Right.

The repubs created The Great Depression and FDR and a World War got us out of it. Truman's and FDR's legacy initiated twenty years of unprecedented economic prosperity.

TWENTY FUKING YEARS OF UNPRECEDENTED ECONOMIC PROSPERITY "NEVER SEEN" AGAIN

Most of you people are so fuking stupid, which is why this country is in a state of peril. Ahhh I'm a dip**** blue collar worker and harbor jealousy at the welfare state....even though they are scared of Overtown and the South Side of Chicago. But the welfare life continues to fascinate and make them jealous.

And, Barry, that "comeback" to what I quoted was sooooooooooo fuking weak and doesn't address a single fuking thing I mentioned.

You think you're smart, and you're aboot mid-range there......but you ain't got it. That response shows a severe lack of knowledge. A cop-out response. No wonder fuking idiots like Ted Cruz are running for president.

See, you idiots, you people have no idea of what you speak. You guys laugh at the fuking dumbest fuking shat on here and praise fuking morons for stupid-arse one liners....

    You're a bunch of modern-day fuk-tards who don't know the real score.

It is You people who created the fuking mess we are in now. Not ****ing Hillary. You fuking morons don't realize that in your life times(except you, Barry, you're ancient) Bill Clinton lead us in our most economic prosperous times since Eisenhower.

The country is going to hell not because of Obama or Hillary but because of a dumbed-down populace who don't know shat.

And I wrote this at 4:00 pm EST, after having ten drinks.

Mr Taft don't forget the roaring 20's. 29' crash was leverage and speculation. Depression, deflation and commodity recession. fD BROsevelt's new deal helped (funded by the largest increase to national debt)... I would submit that the debt fact alone is the brain child of our current dilemma. GW bush accentuated it and Obama absolutely but a # on us.

10 drinks of what? Dude, you pull it together pretty good 10 deep....even though you can't say Obama was a great president with a straight face

I'm 15 drinks in now, and still lucid.

Barry, I actually like and respect you, but your arguments are all one-liners. Henny Youngman would be proud.
Ha, there's a blast from even past my past. Before my past. Hey, you know I just stumbled upon my parents marriage license. Seems, I was a shot-gun wedding type of thing. I feel sorry for my daddy. I hope he wasn't trapped. I was checking to see if they had any pills.

There are so many on here who keep b!tching aboot those who get all of these "entitlements"...you know the welfare state. They all sound jealous.

Well, it's real easy to achieve. You can live "The Dream" very easily.

Though you have to get housing in places you won't even drive-thru. Ha. I can imagine some of you if I took you on a walking tour thru North Philly. Yeah. Scared as shat. Terrified.

Hey they are just exercising their constitutional rights to bare or bear arms. But, yeah, they actually use them there on the daily.

    POP !!

You know, I really find that chick from The Sneaker Pimps(6 Underground) sexy. Yeah.....
