post your top 5 favorite surfboards shape/size/brand. it doesnt have to be yours, just the best ones youve ridden mine are: 1. Eaton 9'0 longboard roundtail 3 fin 2. matt kechele 5'8 bat tail quad 3. Webber 6'0 squash tail 3-fin 4. Chemistry 5'7 squash tail 3-fin 5. Rainbow 6'2 retro fish 2-fin (i have to put this one)6. CB 6'2 squash tail 3-fin
5'9 x 19.25 swallow tail, fish/shortboard hybrid (EPS Epoxy), Plus One Shortboard... 6'0 x18.25 round tail... Plus One. My everyday board. Plus one makes me about 2 of these per year. The exact same dimensions. 6'3 x 18.75 rounded pin for bigger days.... Plus One. 7'4 rounded pin mini-gun (some weird hawaiian shaper) - Its a beater, but i use it once or twice a year if it gets over 12-14ft wave faces... The thing paddles into anything and you can still get nice big turns on it... Its a junker, but I would restore it just because it rules. and finally, my 8'10 longboard thing. Shaped by SouthCoast, SD Those are my top 5 boards that get me through year in and year out. the top three of those boards, I have had multiple models of the exact same boards. P.S. Plus One surfboards are available back on the east coast. I know that Malibu in OC MD has quite a few different models. Vince and a few other guys actually road for George and Joe back on the east coast a few years ago... Maybe they just kill it in SoCal waves, but I'm telling you, once ride a plus one out here, you will never go back... There are other companies that make sick baords, that are more durable, but something about Plus ONe, they make magic sticks. Seriously. The boards just respond, almost in every situation, exaclty how you need it to... Ive snapped a few, but they are ridiculous in the water... check plusonesurfboards.com to see some pics of some of the other team riders. P.P.S. All 5 boards are thrusters... Even the long board. three fins for life! =)
totally agree. had 1 for a year and a half, and loved riding it every second i was on it. sold it though last month, but damn they're fun. would definitely consider getting another
6 2 ashton rocket fish 6 0 ashton round nose fish 6 4 ashton performance thruster 6 2 ashton quad Honorable mention: 5 8 eberly hot stuff Kong model circa 1985 WORST boards ever ridden any retro and any board made in cali/hawaii (they work well in those waves, not so great in our EC waves). also any 90s potato chip board (way too little volume for our small waves).
Best/Worst boards I must agree with you, a hawaiian made made board does not work well on EC. I had a brand new Al merrick K-board tuflite pintail (bought for $850). Thing lookes awesome, surfed like shiz. Surfed two times and sold. Best boards that I have ever surfed- 1. Robert August 7'6" egg thruster "old trusty" 2. Webber Faturner 6.6 Thruster "Only pop-out that actually works" 3. Ashton 6.6 Thruster "Performance Wave Only" 4. In the Eye 6.4 "Grom board" 5. Ron Jon 7.4 Egg Thruster "Cheap but good"
best board i have ever rode was a 5'6 17.5 and 2 1/16 ezera ez1. it was just my magic board and worked perfectly in everything. i even tried to get another ez1 when i grew, and it wasn't the same. i have a um 5'10x18x2 that i got last month and love it.....problem is that the foam is messed up so it pretty much just falling about, but hey i get a 21-13 surfboard for half off.
4'11" mobey retrofish soft top (for when its big and 4 feet from the beach) 5'8" super fish tri fin (summer board) 5'10" surftech quad fish( best board ever) 6'2" jc tuflite (for those frosty winter barrels) 10' stewert single fin (super fun) this is my quiver now perfect jersey quiver all around good boards, all super fun
Right now my 5'11 Green Room Wiskey Fish is my favorite board, and my Gary wilson 8 footer has awesome glide in thigh-waist glass. I don't really have much of a quiver yet.
6'8 In The Eye - Thruster, my workhorse for anything bigger than waist (it's on it's last leg) 6'6 In the Eye - Throwback Thruster, a backup for my workhorse but is a little wider and thicker, has a great 80s throwback shape to it. low rocker, very fast. 6'4 Lost - RNF, good for glassy or mush yet steep, waist to occ chest size. Fun board, worked well in Hawaii. 9'2 Ted Kearns - Classic Noserider, my East Coast longboard, for the average day on the East Coast, I feel like I ride this thing way to often. This is pretty much my quiver. Wouldn't mind picking up a quad or a retro fish but I barely have enough time to ride these as it is.
LedZep: That greenroom board, was that made out here in SD? THere is a local shaper that owns a shop at the end of my street. His board company is called "The Green Room". He has REALLY sick fishes and logs. Way too pricey for me though. I was in there with my shaper one day and he was showing me all these crazy artistic details in the border art and all the trim. The new throw back SD fishes run like $850+ Brand new though... so F*** that. They look really nice though. Almost too nice to ride =) If fishies were my thing, I might get one, but for now, my shortboarding/ADHD keeps me too busy on potato chips all the time.
No connection. The Greenroom is owned by Rich “Toby” Pavel who shapes for Rainbow Surfboards and what you were checking out were probably his quad fish AKA Speedialer. Hands down my next board, what those thing are capable of is borderline mind altering. Pavel was buddies and mentored by Stevie Lis who invented the fish design back in the day in PB. They are pricey man, but paying for that old school quality that hard to come by these days.
actually its not that expensive, at bare wires in long branch, nj they have 2 canyon retro fish quads for 475$ 6'2 and 6'4. but i see what your saying.
Nah, I think it's a coincidence that they are both Green Room. Here's my guy: http://www.greenroomboardsports.com/boards.php I have pictures of my board in my profile album. It's microbrewed epoxy resin, so it's more durable and it was $505. BTW, Jimmy Keith (the shaper) won't charge you extra for a model tailored to fit you; they're the same price as the brand new stock boards.
wynn diamond tail quad -- 6'2" works great for east coast surf from knee/waist to head+, my daily driver and brian wynn is FTMFW plusone squash -- 6'2" siiiick board for when it gets some juice, george gall at POS (plusonesurfboards) is the man. bushman 6'4" squash thruster -- another great board for waves with power, not too good on the east coast mush tho bushman 6' 10" pintail surftech thruster -- i dont really like surftechs but this board was epic on the big days i gotta get a fish for the mush, its coming from POS or Wynn havent decided yet
6'2 x 18.3 x 2.14 Agent by 21-13 (uncle mike) board is so sick, uncle is such a cool dude and makes incredible boards
