Attention surfers of New York and New Jersey: This summer, surfing in Rockaway Beach will be limited to 67th-69th streets.

Beach 67th-69th is already dangerously crowded with surf schools and beginners. This will effectively make Rockaway Beach unsurfable in the summer, driving hordes of surfers (and their money) to New Jersey and Long Island. I know I won't waste my time at Rockaway if this stands. Everyone in the Northeast stands to benefit from having this restriction shot down.

In the name of uncrowded lineups, please sign the following petition on change.org:

    https://www.change.org/p/phillip-goldfeder-bring-surfing-back-to-the-60-s-in-rockaway-beach

When I get a moment, I'll post up the phone and email of political representatives in the area, so that we can all help them realize how foolish of a decision this is.

Can't sign it, slash; I don't live there.
Surfing in the NE is getting tedious thanks to left-wingers. Same in NH. We get summer restrictions which change daily according to lifeguard daily decisions. But before 9AM, no problem anywhere.
I guess one gets what they vote for......

No need to turn it into a left/right thing. Development interests run NY, in both parties.

This is about access for surfers and support for the local economy. The 9am bullsh*t is exactly what we're trying to avoid.

Yep, Beach 67th St, Beach Front Road, Beach 61st/62nd street, Beach Channel Drive, etc... Arverne NY 11692.

    Thanks for the interest.

    That really stinks

Pretty much like all of NJ

    Except, of coarse, Belmar.

Belmar is surfer friendly town. So if your surfing NY - and find your favorite surf spot is now closed for the summer. Fret not. Just cruise on down to Belmar. Yes- New Yorkers- your always welcome in Belmar!

Ps- personally I would just set the old alarm clock a little earlier so you can get out before the guards. Really- some parts of the summer you can be in the water by 5am

    That's true H20... I mean, 'Mr. Belmar'.

But summer isn't just about beating the guards for a DP sesh. It's about surfing all day. It's about beating the guards, then moving to another spot and being on it the moment the tide strikes, then drinking a few beers, and ogling some titties before taking a nap.

Wake up for the afternoon sesh, surf again, drink again, ogle again. Lifeguards leave and then its time for the evening sesh. The sun leaves and then it's time to get drunk, irradiated and satiated.

Summer is about the all day session. It's not just about surfing for 3 hours and hightailing it home. I do that the rest of year, mainly because I'm half f*cking frozen, and also because it isn't very fun to sit in a wetsuit all day, staring at a monotonous landscape so gray it could be on the f*ckin moon.

If this crap restriction remains, those days will be no more. I'll be haunting points North and South of the B-mar. I'll be haunting Long Island. And so will every other d*ckhead city surfer who rarely ventures out because it's just easier to surf at home.

It's best for all of us to kill this thing.

    Reasons why you shouldn't care:

Beach 60-67th have the sh1ttiest sandbars of them all

Rockaway sucks balls as a surf destination regardless

I surf way earlier than 9am or after 5pm cause I don't have parents paying for my **** and have to work.

Driving aspiring surfers to NJ is fockin hilarious, Fock jersey. Just saying.

    F U means good morning.

Ummm what am I missing? Oh right...

Summer's 93% flatter than asian titties anyhow

Sorry, just realized those are all the reason why "I" don't care.
Can you come up with more? Let's see what you got.

During the summer, City of VB's general attitude is: Dogs and surfers stay off the beach.

The yanks are coming south and bringing their regulations with them.

I feel for ya Slash. I always sign any pettion that tries to limit the publics use of their land/waterways. We have an island (IOP) where a bunch of people from off and a few wealthy locals have pushed out the many of the locals and now want to make it hard for the public to access. Of course it is all done in the name of "safety". Truth is they only want your tax money to rebuild and maintain their investment. They don't want us commoners around unless you are working for them.

Between this and the beach replenishment in Long Beach, it looks like a tough summer shaping up for Brooklyn surfers. You guys should probably quit now before it gets any worse.

But seriously, 60th-67th was never an actual surfing beach, you could surf there as long as there weren't guards. Pretty sure this will still be true, and I would be extremely surprised if they have enough staff to guard all of those beaches anytime except for July and August weekends.

Under the new plan, the actual surfing beach in the area will be expanded slightly and moved a block west. The other previously existing surfing beach (90th) will be unchanged, and there will be a new surfing beach at 110th.

I've also heard that they will only be allowing one surf school at a time in the water- we'll see.
