I figure some of us have backs that aren't what they used to be. And driving the death desk ('sitting is the new cancer') isn't helping one bit if you have an aching back.

Did a lot of research, office furniture is such a ripoff insanely expensive. This sit/stand desk originated with Kickstarter. www.autonomous.ai It's about as inexpensive as they come. Quality is very good. 30 mins, or less, to put it together.

Ordered a few of these for employees. Huge hit, people rave about them. So I ordered one for me, too.

Yah, I know what it sounds like. But I'm not flogging this product. Just sharing info that might help any of you buoyz on Oure Forume with 'surfer's back' so to speak.

I have the sit/stand desk & it does make a big difference in my well-being. The hunch is gone.

Interesting design and idea... Although the website didn't work well on my iPhone 9... Soo how does it work? Basically when your tired is sitting, you stand to work and the desk automatically moves?? It's kinda unclear and the video didn't work.

My back is always a pain. I should consult with the SI doctors and counsellors, I only have a PH.D. In leash attachment and design.

My back has not been that bad- as long as I stay active and keep my core strong. But it's still stiff every morning (heating pad is my friend lol)

Interesting - I really messed up my back when I use to do a lot of driving for a job years ago. I would be driving all Alroubd the east coast, it took me a while to learn to stop every hour and stretch/walk so my back wouldn't get messed up

So yes- sitting all day is no good. Idk how people do it. My current job does not allow me to sit for extended periods, always moving. Just wish they had something like this for a car! I still do a fair amount of driving

I wouldn't be surprised if in 20 yrs every desk had this. Many companies are a little crazy about this stuff and willing to spend money. Right now every 6 months I have to get safety trained on erogomincs- it's about a 45 min course!

It's got a quiet electric motor. You press a rocker switch & it goes to the exact height you want. Also has pre-sets/memory, so you can ping it to your favorite setting without having to recall what that is.

Hear ya, Mr B: driving also really sucks for your back & core.

I've seen similar products and have considered the concept. I make it a point to stand up and walk around more while at the office. There's too much sitting in most aspects of our lives, even at the gym.
And a bad mattress, I've also found, can make matters worse.

If you are a male, and if you carry your wallet in your rear pants pocket, take it out while you sit, drive, etc.
    Learn to carry it elsewhere.
That will take care of 95% of back problems in males.

youve heard it a thousand times, but the most important thing is core strengthening exercises, mobility exercises and stretching. I got a buncha slipped disks and i stretch twice a day (not including before surfing) and do strengthening/mobility exercises about 3 times a week. Planks are the most beneficial to me, start with 1 minute in the classic plank position, 1 minute in either side plank position and then 1 minute in a back plank position (literally just roll over like a hot dog trying to cook all sides) Sets of 3-5 will take care of your pain.

Although by doing this your just making a big muscular brace that will wear off if you ever get out of shape and doesnt actually fix your slipped disks, but i mean im sure its better than surgery.

I think your last sentence is really true. The periods when i get weak (working way too much at a desk like a donkey) is when I start to see the problems happen. When you get older, it's harder to bounce back from back pain episodes. You gotta stay strong and loose, all the time.

Herniations and/or stenosis rarely self-heal; You may need surgery. However, IF you do, see a neurosurgeon, NOT an orthopedist and get 2 opinions, at least. Were it me, I would do so sooner than later. But, of course, it is your call. Best of luck with it.

I spent the better part of 3 decades operating a back hoe and/or lift. I always counterbalanced being in that position by doing as much core strengthening as I could but over time my back has begun to decay. I thought that getting put into a management/office position for most of the day would help but it made my back worse. Lo and behold, they got us the exact same desk Yank is getting. It is worth the investment. My back feels better now than it has in years. Plus, the ole lady got us one of those memory foam thingies for our mattress. Dat sh!t is banging. Like sleeping on a cloud.

can a Swell Info MD write me a script for a standing desk? And while you're at it, maybe some muscle relaxers?

Totally serious. Get a little wallet with a money clip attached and put it your front pocket. And get the right mattress. Your back will thank you.

Yah, totally serious. This Autonomous company sit/stand desk is a seriously very good quality product. And for, what, less than $500 with shipping, depending on what style & size you pick. I've seen those mega-expensive desks from the gougers like Herman Miller & HON & the corpulent furniture corps.

Autonomous is the shiiite - - I'd guess that their prices won't stay this low for much longer, because demand is pretty heavy from what I've read.

    Yank,

I'm in the market for a new desk and these seem reasonably priced. I also like that is has an option for a larger 72" x 30" table sized desk. I tend to like having area to spread my stuff out.

    Thanks for posting.

Thanks for the scoop! My wife has been talking about getting me one for the home office, but this narrows it down now that I have your esteemed recommendation. Fathers Day is coming soon. Last year she got me a recliner, so this is perfect yin and yang.

Oh, I never put my wallet in my back pocket. It will ruin you sciatic nerve when sitting, and it will get picked while walking.
