We keep reading and hearing how bad, disgusting, and self absorbed a-holes that many people can be. But there are good folks out there who are doing what they can to help make the world, through their circle of influence, a bit better. This article dates back to July 2013. It's about a program in Malibu in which surfers are helping kids with various disabilities. Sometimes we may take for granted how lucky and fortunate we are to surf. I know that a number of you are or have been involved in similar activities. I've mentioned before that we have a special needs daughter. Sarah was born on March 17, 1997 with a craniofacial syndrome. I've lost count of the number of surgeries she's had over her almost 19 years. Perhaps up to 20. Last week, Sarah had her tracheostomy removed. She had it since she was 3 weeks old to overcome the breathing difficulty due to her syndrome. Once it fully heals in a few months, she'll be able to get in the water more, perhaps learn to swim. She's looking forward to that, and I want to be there for her journey. If you feel I shared too much, I apologize...sort of. But I think we should make it a point, despite the negativity we seem to be surrounded by, to count our blessings. Maybe help contribute to making the world a better place. http://www.malibutimes.com/malibu_life/article_50255c3a-f425-11e2-b318-001a4bcf887a.html
Thanks for sharing.. yes I hope most of us volunteer to any extent but when you put things in perspective I feel humbled. That's a great opportunity to have and learn something from people who really have the stoke,,I wouldn't mind being part of something near me .
It must be truly wonderful to see your daughter get that tracheostomy in the rear view mirror. Glad you shared it. This place is richer for it. Check out this virtual reality surfing engineered by Wingnut for his buddy who has MS and can no longer surf: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=T_VUJUBIpQ4
Humbling indeed. Adversities in our lives can be overwhelming. When it comes to special needs children, how can your heart and love not go out to them and to do anything possible to help in any way. Bless you and your family. The strength in love is immeasurable.
Yea DosXX thanks for sharing. Every day is a blessing...things happen and life can turn on us quick. Also, thanks for sharing about your daughter. I am hopeful she has a speedy recovery and you get your wish to spend some time in the water with her!!!
Righteous post DosX...everyday is a blessing and there is always room for us as individuals to do a good deed. For the record, I know i come across as a misanthropic grouch at times, I do spread good vibes irl when I can. Happy to hear about your daughter, wish you guys nothing but the best.
That is awesome DosXX... It's hard for people that have never faced real adversity to understand how lucky they are. So much gets taken for granted. I hope this is just one a many victories for you and your family.
Shared too much??!!?? Huh?? Are you kidding, man? You have not shared enough!! Sounds to me as if your Sarah has nothing less than fantasticaly great parents!! I am sure we are all here glad she seems to be on a better path now, as you describe. Keep it up, and keep us informed. We are all on your side. And on Sarahs.......
There should be a dedicated GOOD NEWS station. Only good stuff can be broadcasted. Nothing negative. An overwhelming percentage of people out there are good hearted and loving folks. The world needs to hear about this part of the news rather than all the horribly negative stuff we are bombarded with every day. Problem is...People love to peek at a train wreck.
