Finally the wind decided to cooperate over the weekend and I got some solid surfing in. Met up with Antoine at a spot he showed me and it was really fun there for multiple sessions all weekend. Yesterday was surprisingly fun despite the grim forecast. Waves had more size than expected and were pretty clean early day, bumpier but just as fun in the afternoon. Not the biggest or best waves, but they hit the spot. Nothing like getting an entire beach to yourself or with just one friend when conditions are good and it's a beautiful day out. No more wetsuite either! Now it's back to flatness for a few days, hopefully by Wed / Thursday we'll have another bump. Forecast shows a nice little groundswell on the way, fingers crossed!
This afternoon in Delmarva - hour and a half in some chest high lefts...not clean but the good ones walled up nicely and the water is noticeably warmer than it was a week ago. Id say at least 5-7 degree jump.
No goods today...grey skies, mist coming down, trying to be home early enough so it really didn't qualify as "surfing after work" on the home front equation because I think tomorrow and Wednesday are going to be late-worthy.
Four times last week. Nice to get in the water, air was in the high 70s, but surf was nothing to write home about. Hope to get out a few times this week. Water has definitely been getting warmer. Up to almost 50 now. Hope the trend continues. My 4/3 is getting pretty ragged. Keep patching it up, but this will likely be the last winter for it.
wow! I thought it would be better this afternoon but didn't think it would be half as good as it was. Clean and firing in OCMD....surfed a couple hours, got a calf cramp, excuse to get out and shoot a few pics. Warm light offshores...I was toasty in an old 4/3.
clean head high in Loch Arbor NJ this afternoon lots of different peaks. no liners, not steep or hollow, but lots of fun on the long board. I was connecting sections and getting some long rides. feels like the water temps are coming up.
I mind surfed in the fog this morning, both literally and figuratively (nice wake n bake sesh). I went to check it at my go-to spot, figured it may not be doing it yet but thought I may see a rideable line out there. It was still dark, fog was thick, could only see the shore pound. It was glassy and the lines were building and then unloading on the sand. Small but thunderous waves. I imagined myself being a foot tall and getting pitted in these close out barrels. A few were makeable... The sky started to get lighter, but very gray and very dream like. I began to see the mid section almost break in the distance, but not quite doing it yet. I tell myself, in two hours this place will be fun. I waited a few more minutes thinking maybe I can get one of those out there with the LB. Then I realized it just isn't going to happen yet. So I decided to just go home and wait for the swell to fill in. You can tell the ground swell is building, should be fun for a few days. Going back out after work, praying for wind to cooperate.
Should be fun tomorrow. I was hoping some of it would start to fill in by this morning in time for me to get a quick few but I guess not. But yea, you could tell something was brewing in between the minutes long lulls, but the low outgoing tide wasn't helping I'm sure.
It's going to be a 17 second period tonight / tomorrow morning it looks like and then it'll settle in at about 13-14 seconds approx., choose your sand bar wisely
Thinking satellite area might be the call with the reefer. Via killah. Never seen 17 seconds in florida so I'm interested. With that being said, that paddle out is going to be a dream compared to most days.
Shhhh, it gets crowded enough there That's one option, there are several others, we'll see, I don't think it's going to be huge but should be really fun at the right spot
I was surfing alone again this morning. Caught about 10 waves in 20 minutes. Then 7 Wave Storm riders show up and start dropping in on each other.
3rd day in a row of clean OH surf, been nutty. Wind came onshore early afternoon, waiting for the wind switch now for an evening session. Should be happening any moment........
hit the Assateague drive on beach this morning. glassy and 3-4. Or as they would say in Belmar 23-24. More of a sand-bar reconne than anything else hadn't surfed there since last fall. Sandbars seem tweaked.
Surf finally dropped out of the 2X-3X OH range today after a 3-month long conveyor belt of storms, head high and clean with 10-15 knot offshores all day. Water's around 50, not too bad. Got pitched hard on a couple, but redeemed myself with a couple of good barrels and a few nice snappers. A good day.
Day 4, head high, smooth as a virgins belly. If I get to day 5 I'm not sure what will happen, never been there before, but I fear all this good stoke and karma could turn toxic, too much of a good thing, life out of balance.
closeout city everywhere except a certain spot that's a quarter mile out to sea. I got worked today, pretty powerful surf, more in the 5-6 range.
