yankee I think the only thing we have in common is a love of surf, but that's enough in my book. The problem I have with this view is that you would have to basically rewrite the Bill of Rights. This document has served us very well for 240 years and it is the singular reason we have become the greatest nation on this planet, and leader of the free world. Turns out when you give people freedom and the ability to pursue their own interests, great things happen. We've been through **far** more trying times than this in the past, and you've never been more safe in the USA than you are now in the past 60 years. So yes, this is the country I want for my kids. Obviously when terror attacks happen they are sad and tragic events, just like school shootings (Sandy Hook, Columbine), work place shootings, and other mass killings. We continue to improve at identifying and preventing these attacks, but they will continue to happen sporadically, it is unavoidable in a free society. Our view on terrorist attacks should be similar to our view on mass (non-muslim) shootings, they're terrible when they happen, but we're not going to give up our basic freedoms, and we're not going to give up our guns.
Bill of Rights does NOT apply for those wanting to come here, but are NOT here yet. Re-writting the Bill of Rights, is easy. It is only a "problem" if you envision it as one. As you I like the USA as it is. But there are a LOT of communities where the muslims are trying to have judeo-christian laws dropped in favor of Sharia law. That is meant to EXCLUDE YOU, and me. Something needs to change. So far the muslims have net with little success, but, put in another liberal Supreme Court Justice, and you may have to kneel to the east 5X daily
From a cost benefit analysis, this type of action would be extreme on the cost side, with a net negative benefit. Probably why no action has been taken on it.
Defense secretary says US has killed senior IS leader: https://www.yahoo.com/news/officials-us-killed-senior-islamic-state-leader-141746901--politics.html Take that sh*t!
Cost cannot always be the deciding factor. It is decidedly more expensive to execute murderers, but it still should be done, cost difference be damned. Same applies.
No worries, Siggy - - we're just havin' a beer & expounding on differing views. People, perhaps you are one of them, act like our Constitution & the Bill of Rights are this ironclad thing & that's the way it is & that's the way it always will be. Nothing could be further from the reality. The Founding Fathers fought like alley cats over the Bill of Rights. By no means was it unanimous. Heck, three delegates, including one of the most articulate, and some say the real power behind this nation's founding, George Mason, refused to even sign the thing. Thirteen of the 55 Founding Fathers departed the meetings before the Bill of Rights was signed. And Rhody refused to even send a delegation. BTW, the Bill of Rights had almost zero impact on our nation for the next 150 years after it passed. It wasn't until 1931 that the Supremes even made their first ruling on free speech. Now, it's a frequent factor in court rulings. Point is, the interpretation of the Bill of Rights is going to change again & again to reflect modern, changing realities. Not really certain why you're referencing the Bill of Rights, Siggy. I say keep the Muslims out. Where does the Bill of Rights have any direction on immigration policy? Don't cite the Fifth & Sixth Amendments: those apply only to due process & the right to a speedy trial. For people already here in the USA. Immigration proceedings are matters of administrative law, not criminal law. Congress has nearly full authority to regulate immigration without interference from the courts. Because immigration is considered a matter of national security and foreign policy, the Supreme Court has long held that immigration law is largely immune from judicial review. Congress can make rules for immigrants that would be unacceptable if applied to citizens. And that's my point: our reality has changed, and it is continuing to change rapidly. To permit a group to enter into the nation that has the destruction of unbelievers as its mantra within its religious ideology is not only foolish, it is self-destructive. You can say that self-destruction is in the Bill of Rights. As for me, no. No, it's not the direction I want for my country.
My reference to the Bill of Rights was related to your comments concerning shutting down religious institutions (mosques) and man-handling the Muslims who are US citizens. I think you are way over-blowing the 'muslim threat'. ISIL does not pose a clear and present danger to the United States. Their terrorist plots do pose a threat, but on a very limited scale, ergo, 34 people were killed in the Belgium terrorist attack, 89 were killed yesterday from gun violence in the USA. Which is the worse tragedy? The muslims in the Middle East have been at war with one another and the West for well over a thousand years. The list of wars and conflicts in the region runs 40 deep over just the last 60 years with many millions of people killed, so please tell me what is new about this reality. If you want to concern your self with real existential threats to our country, the kind that keep people in the state department up at night, then just look to North Korea, where you have the real possibility of a nuclear attack in the hands of an immature, possibly psychotic, 33 year-old. Or global warming, which could cause significant global instability, war famine... These are real concerns facing our nation today.
See, this is where you lose me & a lot of others. You're not even quoting me correctly. I didn't say shut down mosques. I said shut down mosques wherein the folks who are part & parcel of said mosque are proven to be funding terrorism. As the FBI has proven on multiple occasions. It's when you edit people's comments & then read it back to yourself so that it sounds palatable to your own ears, that's when you become willfully ignorant. It's also willfully ignorant for you to ignore that the rising tide of Islam is the entity responsible for many more terrorist activities on a global scale as well as the loss of civil law as civil law is displaced by Islamic Sharia Law within heavily Islamic neighborhoods in London. Do you know anything about Sharia Law? I believe that Islamic Sharia Law flies in the face of your beloved Bill of Rights. In fact, I know it does. So, for me to state that I want nothing to do with Islamic Sharia Law governing my nation or my fellow citizens is entirely reasonable. The conversation here in the tread is regarding Islam. Not the other topics you try to dilute this tread with.
Ok, sure, I'm being willfully ignorant. Let's check back here in a couple of years, and it will be the same ****, different day, and the Middle East will still be farked up. However, if you are right, and the good ole USA has converted over to sharia law, then I promise to don a burka, and become your personal man-*****.
Siggy, siggy, siggy....you jumped into this tread, all confident pontification, straining to impress, as if you think through issues, yet there you go again, you show your true sparkiness with this ^^ post. How does that feel.... getting owned? You're correct for maybe the first time in your life in that I am right about my view on Islam. You're incorrect in your opinion that Sharia Law will be running the USA; I do not believe that the USA will be under Sharia Law; not as long as I'm alive. Sharia Law will only take over if simpering PC's are running the circus. And no need for you to don your woman's burqa, sparky. You'll only have a dry cleaning bill from your playmate wayne's drool on the shoulders of your burqa, yes that guy, wayne, who will have undoubtedly converted by then, being the opportunistic twister that he is.
It felt very uncomfortable, I'm not sure why you had to take your clothes off, what was that all about?
The only thing revealed is your level of willful ignorance. The Prophet will take care of your wifey.
Sorry, incorrect. It's already been done before successfully. Thanks for playing. Quote your source(s) for this misinformation, please. Pew Hispanic Research Center? La Raza? LULAC? Huffington Post? I'll bet you $100 that for every point you attempt to justify your statement, I can come up with a stronger argument showing how you are incorrect. And no, it won't be from Faux News or Breitbart or Stormfront.
Fair enough. So let's just compare US citizen deaths from terrorism to US citizen deaths from mass shootings. Which one do you think is greater? I was going to respond to other points in this thread in length, but it's not worth it. You are a bunch of prejudiced fools, and with your support, we'll be interning Muslim U.S. citizens in no time. Just like the Japanese in WW2. It will be repeated, thanks to people like you- people who choose to listen to the lower sentiments of hate and tribalism; to associate a massive group of people with something a tiny percentage of their population is involved in. People like you hateful fools are the reason that the Jews were put in camps. People didn't question their own hatred and primal tribalism when everyone said that the Jews had a dangerous ideology, just like some of you are saying about Muslims. First they're ostracized, then they're banned, then rounded up. Every anti-semite wasn't a terrible person. Many had no idea how far things would go, and were disgusted when they found out. But they still helped to lay the foundation, by being small minded and tribal; by listening to people who gained power from spreading fear, prejudice, and hatred. Just like you're doing now. Hate feels good because it's easy. But it's a terrible thing with real consequences. Please, think of humanity. Don't listen to the angry or scared person on the television, or on the podium, or inside of you. Open your heart to other people, to their suffering and their hopes; to their different ways of life, to their humanity. Open your mind beyond petty national borders and ideologies; to not only your negative, but also positive, experiences with other religions and cultures. That is all. Please reflect and let this thread die. Please have a surf. Kiss your kids, your wife, or girlfriend. take your dog for a walk. In an instant it can all be gone. Before that moment, you can choose to make the world a better place for future generations; you can choose to be above the fray.
No I don't believe I am overblowing the "muslim threat". I define that differently than you do, perhaps. I just don't want to put up with the bullsheit from the "minority" numbers. That is accentuated when the muslim population , as rule, gives tacit approval to terrorism by remaining quiet, which is what I define as the principal problem. As an example, the Paris terrorist just recently captured, was living in the Brussels muslim community, out and about. The community knew he was there. Not one of them reported him to authorities. That is the principal concern all non-muslims should have--why the silence?? There are passages in the Koran relevant to helping other muslims?? Given that, they have to go. Otherwise, in years to come, your children and mine will be living in an extension of the violent Middle East. It is foolish to ever forget 9/11 until such time that the terrorism comes to a halt, and all muslims have joined all christians in putting a complete halt to it. That has yet to happen. Does anyone actually believe, that if the muslim terrorists get their hands on a nuclear bomb, that they will not use it??
Slash, you seem like a well rounded dude, and i know you dont care for my comment but here are a few points i'd like you to think about what is the difference? bombings or mass shootings or any other mass death event is terrorism well...yes... but do you agree with their whaling practices? Jews were NOT running around europe suicide bombing movie theaters and train stations. wtf do tribes have to do anything? i agree with this. Tell that to radical sumnis dude, seriously. people here are angry in retaliation, not as a first hand - first served offensive. problem being all it takes for evil to prevail is for good men to stand quiet. we've been quiet long enough, i think. in fact, in you think about it - going to a subway station and detonating a suicide belt is a LOT like rounding up people and gassing them, dont you think? or coming to the beach with a few buddies with ak47's and start spraying.... dont forget who's who in this equation. if nothing is done - i dont see this stopping. an object/idea/action in motion will remain in motion until countered. this is the law of everything. as for the radicals forming a small percentage of muslims - i agree, but if their own people can't handle the problem, how long will it be until the whole world cant?
