yep you said it well. When i'm walkin through the halls of my school I sometimes walk close to the wall and pretend I'm getting barreled. It's like a human barrel with all those people there. haha thats how I get through my school days!
^sorry, thats just dumb. I found this pic. Not the biggest but pretty legit. I didnt take it. http://www.wannasurf.com/spot/North...dex.html?wdaction=lib.WDPagePhoto.show&page=4
Necro bump, was reading this thread and found some post-Sandy pics of big EC surf. This behemoth from Sandy: Florida Sandy surf: This monster says its Jenks but not sure, is that the concrete barrier?: Anyone have any others?
yup lol.. cant really say a wave from sandy means its bigger than ne.those spots up there can handle the size without closing out.but surfing waves that size over here is extremely dangerous lol, without a ski,idk wish I could say I seen a day bigger but that's the biggest in the mid atlantic
Speaking of Florida - I remember seeing this shot from Florida after the Halloween swell of 1991. I had never seen clean surf that big in Delaware, but none of the Delmarva spots were really holding the size...the swell periods were 17 seconds and everywhere was just closing out in big sections 1/4 mile out. This shot by Tony Arruza was in Surfer mag that fall and blew my mind.
Here is the depth at which a wave will start the shoaling process (start interacting with the bottom). Depth(ft) = Period*Period * 2.56ft , where period is in seconds. 10 sec period => 256 ft 12 sec period => 369 ft. 14 sec period => 502 ft. 16 sec period => 655 ft. 18 sec period => 829 ft. 20 sec period => 1024 ft So, a 10ft wave @ 12 seconds (a solid East Coast swell), will start feeling the ocean bottom at 369ft depth. thats interesting to see that 2 seconds in swell speed changes that much of the wave groping the bottom . i would figure height of swell would change that distance more that swell speed . But if I'm not mistaking a 10ft wave would start to break in half its wave height of water , 5 ft . or is that incorrect .
Wow- so I realize this is an old thread... But really?? 18 pages?!?! EVERYONE knows that the biggest waves on the continental east coast are found in BELMAR And yes- that was Raven L in OC.. Pretty nice size wave- but it looks like it's only 21 ft...
That's a decent size swell at the road. I've surfed it there bigger a many times and not a drop of water out of place but now there is too much sand and it is weird when it gets big. These days I'm happy to get it OH.
