We surfed that on twin fins and kooked out until they invented thrusters. Then it was easy. Perfect waves are easy when you have the right bort.

All I know is I saw the barneget bout hit 29 feet at 16 seconds this winter. Reference the thread 30 foot waves on the east coast. The montauk was at 27 and the next morning I went to Rhode island to a spot that is a decent after the north westerlies were on it all night and it was 8 to 10 foot faces. In other news Surfliner is calling for 20 foot plus here on the north shore tomorrow. Maybe my nuts will drop I'll find a gun and get a redemption session at waimea
No Big Secret. Ruggles Ave. Newport, Rhode Island. Photo is Mike Reise "Around The Corner". You need deep water to hold big swells and the depth is 60' just outside the break. link to the whole story on Surfline... http://www.surfline.com/surf-news/spot-check-ruggles_118026/
that reise photo was in esm with the caption about how he fell and grabbed some lobsters from the bottom after. epic shot
thanks for posting this link. Somehow I missed this. Such a love hate relationship with this place, but stoked to have the opportunity to have experienced the southern ne anomaly.
I remember when I was 17 and 2 of my buddies and I took a road trip to OBX. The waves at the lighthouse were 8 to 10 foot faces in the midbreak, spitting barrels, and way way outside were perfect TOH bombs ridden by locals on 7'6" pintails. I had never seen anything like it. I got pitted in the midbreak, but was way way too scairt to even think aboot paddling out to those big boy waves.
Ruggles or block island. Video below of hurricane bill. Ian Walsh and Garrett macnamara surfing that day. Other videos on YouTube too if u search. Here is a clip. http://youtu.be/wjUzYMOSTU4
I was out there that day. It was incredible. DOH perfection with the occasional scary bomb clean up set. That Coast Guard Captain (driving the boat) got canned for conducting that training in the surf. Effing bull****
When the pictures were all over the news he was suspended. And a while later he was permanently relieved... It was a big story on LI. A lot of people came out in support of him. Not sure if he was discharged or how it works. I just remember he was booted from his position as commander... I'll look it up.
