I plan on leaving Baltimore around 5 a.m. which should put me at the beach @ 8, just before low tide. Do you think I should go right to Assateague, or should I check OC first?
not much surf out there? swell looks small and fickle. drive to teaque because if there is waves, you don't have to waste time looking for a sandbar. plus, saturday? ocean city? while deal with the mess?
depends on what you like...assateague will be slow + maybe some walls with this little swell..OC will be unridable shorepound (on THAT end of town) and short fast shoulders (those few blocks with shallow sandbars). The inlet will have a bunch of people on it.
I'm happy this was undercalled in the beginning of the week. I'd rather cross my fingers that it's going to increase than be depressed when a swell blows out. I just hope it hold tomorrow. Not much longer before it's fullsuit time.
I have been watching the hourly forcast on weather.com and that West component of the wind direction has been creeping up earlier and earlier. First it was sw around 3am and wsw by 7am. It has crept up to now sw at midnight and wsw by 3am. I'm smelling a skunk here. If it turns hard west at midnight we'll be lucky to see a waist high wave at best. I'm gonna PFS, but don't get your hopes up too high yet.
What's the difference between Assateague and some of the spots in OC up around the 40's? I'm looking to head out from Baltimore around 0500-0530 as well. I would like to try to make the most of the day, since there hasn't been much recently.
Looks to me like it will only be about 10 mph offshore so it wont blow it down that fast, should be some fun ones in the morning, hopefully enough size for SS
I think the sandbar on Assateague is generally better and it does better on the low tide which is about 8:30. If you see a Honda Pilot with a couple of longboards on top, say hey.
