yes it would... just kidding haha John oppito of rozbern surfboards is teaching me. http://rozbernsurf.com -heres a link to his sight i think there is some kind of fish on there, check it out. He also does customs, just shoot him an email
WTF - $615 for a surfboard from a nobody shaper? Thats silly! I'd go direct to Matt or Al for that price! CRAZY!
Price should reflect the quality of materials, craftsmanship, and customization... not the name. I know John and his boards, and can tell you first hand he's a talented board builder. Lousy businessman... talented shaper. I'd have to argue $500-$525 for a clear is a great price. $600 for custom glass, resin tint, pinline, 5 fin option... also a fair price from any local board builder with local knowledge and proven skills.
Two words: Costco Yo Slash, u seen that rainbow after the rain yesterday? How beautiful was THAT? Any decent shapers in LI area that you guys can recommend? If not I don't mind traveling to jersey, I guess. Prices are also kinda important Eric : that wonder board looks noice thanks for the link!
No disrespect to you. I actually didn't even see your boards until just now (very nice!) I was calling out the website that you posted. Guy has boards on there for 615. Seems insanely steep for somebody I've never heard of (not saying that means anything - I've been out of state for 5 years) It's crazy the cost for boards on the east coast. I have 4 shapers I can go get customs from 380-440 Novak Sauritch Zouvi McCabe Lastly, if the resident surfboard guru (lbcrew) gives the man props on his ability I take calling him a nobody shaper back.
john oppito at rozbern surf is a trusted and talented shaper/glasser, He's got a good thing going in asbury park. excellent materials selection and quality... my next boards will be from him. @scobeyville no thanks to the off-the-shelf merrick or matt biolos factory production boards with thin glass, distribution markup, shipping costs and cheapass materials @lbcrew really? lousy businessman?? ouch... gotta love swellinfo
Nah, I missed it. I probably wasn't in the water until 6, but even if it was then, I could have missed it. Was a choppy & shifty session, the waves were hard to read and I was pretty focused. Were you the dude that met up with the nice older SUP guy? If so, we surfed together. Not sure it was you but for some reason that dude's harmless stoke had Towel written all over it. As far as NY shapers go, didn't you have a LB made by Becker at NS? I still haven't ridden one of his boards but I've only heard good things, and the price is certainly fair. I've got two Bungers, both purchased used; one is an off the rack 7'3 that I love, the other's a custom copy of a Lost V3, which I'm enjoying a lot, but the lines aren't too clean... Some guys out here swear by the Grey Ghost boards, dude called Joey Clams makes them and I think he might work at Pilgrim. Faktion/Petrocelli's boards always look good, no idea what they cost though. EDIT: Come to think of it I saw a pic of a sick looking NS fish recently. http://imgur.com/a/HW8oT Most of the talented craftsman I've known and worked with have lacked a keen business sense. I know people who can fix any problem in a home, but they are decades behind in bookkeeping and marketing technology.
hahaha i saw them arrive as i was walking out.. must be some other towel lol i love my NS, even tho it was a little costly, maybe because it's a custom. although i do have some glass cracking right under the rails... so idk. havent been dinged...i dont think...but have been riding it pretty hard. i'll def check out some of those suggestions, thanks! maybe will hit up Mike again, that fish on the pic looks great, shape-wise hehe edit: Rozbern's "Seed" looks like exactly what im looking for in a daily driver, minus not being a fish.
That's what I meant... IMO... as a DIY kinda guy... being called a talented board builder and a lousy businessman is a sincere compliment. A term of endearment, so to speak.
