Hey guys,,, just wanted to throw this question out there in case anyone has any ingenious solution that I've not yet thought of. I had to sell my truck over the winter, and ended up with a Jeep Liberty that doesn't have roof rails that I can mount cross bars to. My 9' 6" longboard won't fit inside, so looking for a secure way to transport it. Yes, I know aftermarket roof rails are available, but unfortunately my budget is very tight right now. Any DIY ideas?

Get a soft strap rack. I've had mine for two years. No problems. Just make sure you close the excess strap inside of the door. They are pretty loud but you can get a pair for 20 bucks online.

foam pipe insulation and some straps. Run the straps through insulation and then through doors. 1 insulated strap above board one below. They sell something similar on Amazon.Dorsal Deluxe Single Wrap Rax Surfboard Soft Racks Pads and Straps (2) Dakine Block
Get a shortbort. soft racks are cheap and werk fine they can be a little noisey but you can usually mess with'em and minamize the buzzin'.
I've had my eye on a fish but I'm going to stick with the LB for another season before I try that transition. Still a beginner,,, still suck.
I might actually be able fit it inside if I lay the seats down and put the nose on the passenger side dashboard, but my 11 year old daughter is ready to learn this year so she'll be riding shotgun most of the time.
I agree. I had an 8' softy and very quickly went to a 7'6" ron jon. Not a very difficult transition at all and you get a little more maneuverability. I have a two door jeep. My 7'6" just barely makes it in there. No rack needed unless I have a passenger.
