Barry, your so incredibly wrong. It actually hurts. While I do agree that there is allot of marketing crap in the surf industry. Most definitely. But a grovler is not a marketing scheme. You say that's what they want me to think so I buy there boards and get my money? Well I never owned a name brand board. Ever. Actually I own a Campbell brothers bonzer. But my point is, grovlers are a design. Dosn't mean you have to throw money at ...lost. Just go to a local shaper. Boom. Eff the surf industry and still get a grovler.

And grovlers are crap? Your incredibly wrong there also. I do agree that 4 boards is enough, and the 4 you mentioned deffinitly cover all waves. I'll give you that. But if it's a soft waist high, and you want a diffrent feel from a LB, grovlers are deffinitly a great option. I don't consider them LB substitutes. Because it's two completely diffrent feels and styles. But they work in similar waves. Difference is, no matter how skilled you are, a 9' board will not turn like a sub 6' board. At least not in the weaker stuff.

If you, Barry, you, tried a grovler and didn't think it worked and it was crap. All I get from that is that your skill is the issue, like someone else said. Either that or you expected it to ride like a LB. If that's the case then your just a moron.

I think you and Roy would get along nicely.

Garage boards are the solution to the obscenity that has become surf brand marketing.

And if your boards suck... or fall apart... you only have yourself to blame.

Bing Dharma or Swee Pea. I prefer the Swee Pea personally have ridden both . They hold up much better then Lost and CI IMO.

Lots off good info here. Appreciate all the comments they have been very helpful. Guess I'm gonna try and demo the puddle jumper in 6"4 and a baked potato in 6"1 then I'm gonna write down what I liked and disliked about each. Also have a chance to demo an average joe too so although it's gonna run me some money to demo these boards at least I will get two things out of it 1. A credit to use in the store if I don't buy a board and 2. Good info and feedback for a heck of a lot less money than buying a board and realizing I may have made a mistake.

Found this little solo shot video of a guy riding a puddle jumper lib tech 5"11 If I had to describe the majority of the dog days of summer waves in my area this would be the worst you would see.. Like how this guy is able to work the puddle jumper out of the crumble and into the cleaner parts of these very small waves

I'm sorry... I have to say it... that's some of the ugliest surfing I've seen in recent memory.

I'd be hanging heels on my log, but... to each their own. Go for it, brother.

Check out day 88. Kick ass japanese soundtrack and the dude comes from outerspace. I just watched three days of this dude surfing crappy waves on his libtech hand crafted made in the usa water board.

This dude had to be Emass's brother or something, way too analytical for a surfer.

I'm 190 and do fine on a 5'6" mini Simmons. If the volume is right, about 35 liters for me, and you can actually surf, it is plenty of board. I posted a link earlier to a review of the Verner Mini. You really can ride it on waves that aren't really breaking. I've managed grab rail cutbacks, at speed, on thigh high waves. They are also made way better than ...Lost. Not knocking Lost, but for a summer beater board, they aren't the best.

Does your Vernor have the suspension feature? If so does it seem to create more speed?

Yep, my boy KahunaKai has a Simmons and he's like 6'6" 250lbs give or take, and he rides that thing just fine in small waves. It's a super thick board but it works.

2Fun- I've been riding my 6'2 Lost Puddle Jumper for a month or so now and am liking it. I had a 6'4 Lazy Boy, and loved it. I find the Puddle surfs better with a little more push than the Lazy; the Lazy had slightly better glide into waves, whereas the Puddle is a little tighter/later entry. I've groveled both in knee high peelers, but really enjoy the boards in waist to chest conditions.
I'm still playing with the fin setup on the Puddle, and would like to find those hatchet style fins like in the pic on the first page of this thread. I just wish fins didnt cost so much

So, if you can get a Lazy Boy or Puddle Jumper, you'd probably be stoked for chest high and under. (although both boards can handle head to overhead points...)
