So- in reply to DawnPatrols State of the Si Union Thread- Im going to throw this out there: Im looking for a new fin for one of my Longboards.... and figured I would check with yous guys to see if anyone had one. Maybe you got one laying around in your basement. Maybe you got one tucked away in the trunk of your car. Maybe you found one while performing some sand reconne... Anyways- im looking for something specific, which a shape similar to what is pictured. with a lot of fin area but still has some drive (not so much pivot/straight fin) some of the different types are the Fins Unlimited Malibu, Rainbow El Gato and the True Ames Yater Spoon fin.. If you got one and your local, let me know! I just don't feel like dropping $80 bucks on a new fin... ALSO- feel free to add any thought about fin design ect!
Dude, take a good look at that fin and tell me what it looks like lol I don't have one to give you but good topic. I really love my 9" Greenough 4-A that I have in my HPLB, best fin I've owned by far, I think it's perfect for my "style" of surfing.
Yes, I am tempted to ask that guy who makes fins on here... whats his name?? he charges a lot tho, one of those BLEF fins costs like 400$- and that's just for the screw!
yea, Im kinda over it on the pivot style fins, besides not really being my style- they spin out too easy in bigger surf. and your right- you need the drive on a beach break. Im really looking for a good fin for noseriding as well. more of a classic style. not really hplb but the board I would like this for is a bit thinner then your normal longbort, something like 9'6x23.5x2.75 my current fin is fairly basic- although its a good fin- it doesn't hold well when on the nose. the board is not side slipping much- but I find with a fin with more area will help the board stay higher on the wave/in the pocket, when on the nose.
yea- that's almost exactly what I already have on my board! the board turns great and everything- even has good drive, just want more area! this is what I have now: http://www.trueames.com/products/california-classic-single-fin love the true ames fins- they have a lot of different fins. I have one of those True Ames Greenough fins, but smaller, on a single fin short board... love it!!! Thanks for the feed back guys!!! Stay stoked!
That kind of fin is a real noseriding fin... really meant for pointbreaks where you walk out onto the tip and stay there for a while. They'll let you drive down the line even after the wave breaks, so you can connect sections, but they don't turn so good. I think the best fin for nosering in beachbreaks around here is a longer fin with a long base, a narrower tip, and a bit of flex. A 10" fin on a 9'2 to 9'6 will hold for noseriding, and still let you whip the board around do to the reduced tip area and flex. I ride a Farberow Flex on my 9'3.
I've been holding off on buying a pivot for that reason but i was looking at the warren pivot and the velzy noserider. more area but has some rake to it.
I think it really depends on the type of wave your planning on riding- if its not too steep or big, the pivots are super fun! otherwise I would prefer more rake to help, otherwise your be spinning out all over...
I have used my 8" True Ames Squirrel Cutaway on my daughters 9' single fin longboard (it has lots of rocker so it's not for noseriding) and have not suffered from lack of drive in beachbreaks. It can slip on steeper waves, so I got a 9" in the same model. I'm still waiting for a clean lined up chest high plus day to see how she holds on the drops. I like the pivoty-ness of the fin, it lets me do smooth cutbacks and I grew up a spastic twin finner so I prefer to turn. I had an old Takiyama noserider, it was impossible to turn, but it got stolen, so I never refined my noseriding. Noseriding is great over coral reef, to see the coral heads fly by, the water so clear you feel like you're flying on a magic carpet, so I totally respect the toes on the nose. Always room for growth. New fins are cool. They keep an old board fresh.
TOP DEFINITION blef Not very exciting Eh... so so or feh She has some nice bombs but her ass is blef.
i have a nice one 9 inches ill send ya a pic im in ri though will sell for pretty cheap 50 bucks. its carbon fiber. i never use it since longboarding is gay (sorry I had to) i like to longboard actually.
Is this Dingpatch actually Roy in disguise? Cause if it is- although his fins are really nice, I could never afford them...
